Post subject: | WTF! - Shoes |
Ok, this is seriously driving me crazy. I ALWAYS double knot my laces. No matter what shoes I'm wearing, my left shoe almost never comes untied. My right shoe comes untied 5-6 times a day. I have triple knotted the right shoe. I have tied it both directions (left over right and right over left). I have videotaped myself walking, and cannot see a difference in how I swing or place my feet. It is far too frequent and consistent to be a coincidence. There must be a reason, and it's driving me nuts that I cannot figure it out. |

Right after you form the last knot, pass one of the loops through the opening before tightening. Patent pending. If you want an analysis of your walk, check out the soles of a pair of old shoes. |

This is actually why I no longer tie my shoes. The same thing used to happen to me, on the left side. The shoes that I actually have laces on, I do a single knot and tuck them into the right/left sides of my shoe. It's a habit from skateboarding, protecting my laces from getting eaten up by the grip tape. |

My right shoe always comes untied when I run no matter what I do. |

Laces? I wear sandals, part of the being diabetic for me is that my feet swell, it is my major side effect. The sandals are damn expensive but they work very well for me. Find a type of laces that do not untie easily, round can't stay tied, flat are better. Laces with a little bit of texture to them tended to stay tied the best for me. Leather laces on boots never gave me a problem back then. The real question is why one foot and not the other. Which foot is dominant? Which leg crosses over? Are the laces slightly longer on the offending foot? Have you left pizza out for the brownies recently? |

One instep bigger than the other, perhaps? |

Is the lace twisted? This happens to me a lot and my current hypothesis is that the lace is twisted. |

I doubt it has to do with how you walk, and has more with how you place your feet while sitting. Perhaps you are somehow loosening the knot while at your desk, etc. |

Do you wear velcro pants or something? |

Perhaps you are somehow loosening the knot while at your desk, etc. You may be on to something with this one. If I cross my feet (lay one foot on top of the other), I could be working it loose. Of course, now I'm paying attention too much and no matter what I do it feels unnatural. I'll try to figure out which way I cross my feet and how I do it. I'll also pay attention to see if my shoe comes untied less on the weekend (when I'm not at my desk). |

Gotcha. I'll keep an eye out for this. Not sure why that would make it come untied. |

well, if it gets curled up into a cylinder, I could see how it might be more likely to slip. |

Secure Ian Knot. It's less bulky and I haven't had a shoelace come loose since I started using it a few years back (when it was first posted on the Glade). http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/secureknot.htm |

I just taught myself the knot and it seems pretty superior. Thanks Taam. |

Someone taught me that knot in elementary school but I've completely forgotten about it. I'm going to try it also. |
