SO; we have our servers we monitor, we also monitor the equipment run by the MIS/IT guys, and even some equipment we monitor for customers of ours... This evening our email seems to just begin to act like a douche. I can get my own internal and gmail emails... But strangely I am receiving no customer emails, nor am I receiving any emails from our monitoring equipment (which we will call OpenNMS). OpenNMS is supposed to actively monitor the devices. And then send out an email when it detects a problem. Couple this with me actively monitoring the equipment... and it is fairly hard to miss a problem. I saw an outage begin, and I began to look into the issue. But no email from OpenNMS, it is also strangely quiet and there is a lack of customer emails... So I call the group that is supposed to manage the box, MIS... who also controls the exchange server. Their on call number rings to a guy who is out of town for the week. And while there are two people from that department still in town... he has decided to wait on investigating the issue with why no email, and dude your box is having issues until he gets back into town... which is distinctly not today. This was even after he admitted that the outage we have encountered IS customer impacting. And that is not including the email issue. I would absolutely LOVE to notify his boss about the issue; but he is the gorram department head. This is the department who will reimage a computer to hope that the windows updates will load a driver you ask them for. Or that when you say... hey the RAM on this computer is fried*. They actually did this to a co worker; Co worker had was at 2Gb of RAM one day... and the next day he rebooted the machine, got the Post alert that the system RAM had changed. Shut the **** off, looked and found the RAM chips still in the system... tried to reboot and it it still reported 1Gb of RAM, again this is on post... Pre Windows. So the IT dept took his computer and Re-imaged it back to default, locked him out of all of the accesses we need to effectively monitor and resolve issues, did not put in any new RAM, and then gave it back to him saying they couldn't figure out what the problem was... |

Sounds like a whole slew of people who don't need or want their jobs. |
