Over the past couple of days I have had interactions with a more demanding customer as well as a high demand from the VP of Engineering from my new employer.
Situation:
I gave the VP my cellular number: less than 15 minutes later he called me, needed me to go back into the office and work with a customer who he had on the phone.
Today I have spent the last 3.5 hours working with this customer on a different issue (which is legitimately not within my companies ability to fix), we knew this was not my problem 2.5 hours ago... but I am still helping him anyway.
I will also continue to help him, and to do whatever this new VP needs (within reason) for one reason...
When I have helped each of them, they thanked me and told me that they appreciate my help.
This is a really awesome thing to hear from a customer, and from a boss.
