Got mailed a ticket. $40, no points luckily. But still, it's **** up. The camera hit at least 3 other cars as I was going through. Thanks a lot Maryland.

They have cameras for speed now too? Last I heard, they were just for red lights.

Arizona had them for a couple of years, then the state and the almost all of the cities let the contracts run out

The camera ones are usually less so people won't fight the questionable legality/accuracy of the process as much.

We had them for about two weeks for the company went out of business of questions of quality.

Speeding tickets are like $200 here. This is a citation they mail to you if you go even a little over the limit. The camera hits about 10-12 cars per minute.

Don't forget, it's a safety issue, NOT a source of revenue. I got one for doing 47 in a 4-lane with median 35mph zone. I could have killed an entire town.

Who the **** has a 4-lane with a median and the 35mph speed limit?

Townships who have decided strategicly use civil penalties as a means of revenue collection.

Detroit has a six-lane highway with a median that suspiciously drops down from 55 mph to a 40 mph speed limit for the 3-4 mile section near the international airport. They have at least four cop cars on this section at all times to nab travelers that don't know about this.

The main thoroughfare I travel to and from work is a 4-lane median divided boulevard. It's capped at 35 mph the entire way, and in the 4.5 miles I drive, I go through 7 stop signs and 6 stop lights. But it's residential suburbia almost the entire way, so they want to keep the speed down.

But.. Residential suburbia demands a 4-lane divided road?

Yes Kaffis, it can. Parts of Sacramento have that same "feature".

I have the same thing here in Texas. In places it is up to a 6 lane divided road, with a speed limit of 35 mph.

I hate encountering divided roads when I travel. Sacramento ranks high in this list, in the suburbs. I make one wrong turn, trying to find gas, and have to travel a freakin' mile to be able to turn around. Just a pet peeve.

This is pretty much everywhere within Dallas city limits. All of Northwest Highway is 35, for instance. It's ridiculous. And also probably not really legal. The state legislature has certain regulations for roadway speed limits. "Whatever the city feels like doing" is not one of the criteria

I do hate the having to go down the frontage road in order to turn around and get to the other side thing.

Did you not pay citing judicial review or "revenue, not safety"?

They have to divide these roads or the cops would be doing nothing but responding to accidents. Any situation where some lanes of traffic are moving while others aren't on an undivided road is just an accident magnet for anyone trying to make a left turn. They squeeze through a gap in the unmoving right lane and get hit by someone flying down the left lane that they can't see very well, or if both lanes aren't moving they similarly get hit by someone coming down the suicide strip.

The issue boggling my mind isn't that dividing the lanes doesn't make sense for a high traffic, multi-lane road. The issue is that high traffic, multi-lane roads are considered residential (and thus worthy of an artificially low speed limit and lack of mitigating traffic controls like lights).

Fortunately I live in small town Mississippi and don't have to deal with any of this crap that you big city folk do....of course, small towns have their own sorts of problems but traffic issues are not one of them thank God. Think I'd go crazy if I had to put up with all these things you guys are mentioning.
Heh, my biggest pet peeve about the roads down here is getting stuck behind a tractor on the highway on the way to wal-mart lol!
