So I paid my insurance company their monthly fee. I check on my bank website and there is their withdrawal. Then I see a second pending transaction for the same company, for the same day, for the same amount. It is holding an extra 300 bucks hostage on my account.

I contact my bank and they inform me that the charge is attempting to go through twice. I can either let it go through and dispute it or contact my insurance company and get them to drop the pending charge.

So I call the nozzles of douche that are my insurance company and tell them about this issue. They immediately say it is not their fault and that my bank needs to fix it with their third party vendor...

Mind you; I went to the insurance companies website; went to 'Pay Now' and then made my payment. No where did it say anything about a third party being involved. Now my insurance company is admitting that I am being double charged by an agent working on their behalf, but is shirking their responsibility in resolving the fact that they have already received their **** money and are trying to double charge me. I sincerely hope the company execs die in a fire over this. Even if they resolve the issue.

Time to change insurance companies.

Tell your bank to talk to your insurance company, and tell your insurance company to talk to your bank; give them both the appropriate contact numbers, and tell them that if it's not resolved by end of business, you will no longer be needing their services.

I (almost) never allow anyone that I owe money (or monthly payments) to to access my bank account directly for this exact reason. Any mistake they make is your demise.

There was a story here where some older couple had a vacation property on a lake with a boat dock. While they were out of state, someone tied a boat to the water spout on the boat dock and forgot about it and drove off, ripping out the pipe and leaving water gushing out into the lake for 3 months. They had a $19,000 water bill one-time-payment deducted from their checking account.

Another story I read about where someone had a $15 payment put through as a $1500 payment (missed a decimal point).

Whats really painful is, unless you have a very understanding bank, you are on the hook for any overdraft fees, etc...

Something similar happened to then SO's mom... she submitted her mortgage payment of 750... when entering the payment into their system... the bank put the check down as 7500 and not 750.

When my daughter got braces, the dental clinic tried to get my wife to give them my bank account information so that they could deduct the monthly payment. My wife called me while I was on the way to work wanting to know if I wanted it out of checking or savings, and I said "naither".

She says "What? That's how they do payments here."

I told her "well, that's not how we do it. They send us a monthly statement and I send them a check, or they don't get paid."

"But they're already working on her!"

"Then tell them to stop working and take whatever they already did off because we're finding another orthodontist. They should have told you about this before starting."

To make a long story short, we compromised so that we'd write them a check whenever we brought her in for an appointment.
