Stupid **** suburban broke today. Apparently it needed oil(though the oil gauge thinger said otherwise and I have just recently started driving this particular vehicle, so I had no idea when the last oil change or whatever the **** you do with cars to keep them from **** up is). So now we are pretty **** with only one vehicle. Thankfully one person in the house doesn't work, so they can play driver until something gets fixed, but who the **** knows when that's going to be? I'm not even sure fixing the suburban will even be worth the money. Gonna get it check out, of course...but I don't have very high hopes for that one. The Kia shouldn't be a big deal, though...it actually runs now, but the check engine light is on. As soon as I get paid next week, we should be able to get something done about it.

But ****.

I'll let my mechanic know that when he asks me to pay him. I'll tell him you said so.

Skip changing your oil, you'll save a couple hundred bucks - until your engine seizes.

I wouldn't have skipped it if I knew it needed oil. Like I said, I just recently started driving and the gauge said it was fine. It's still my fault, of course. But it is still upsetting.

Your car has a guage that tells you the level, viscosity and contamination level of your oil?

Nah, you can't really be blamed for this, Raltar. My comment was meant as an affirmation of Taskiss' post.

And my post wasn't intended as anything other than a recognition of the moral of your story.

Someone is supposed to call us back later today to tell us how much it will cost to rebuild the engine. On the bright side, the only thing that was wrong with the Kia was that it had a bad battery. We still can't figure out why the O/D was going on and off(as it hasn't done that since then and ith as been driven quite frequently since then, it's just that the battery kept dying), but we had it checked out and they couldn't find a damn thing wrong with it other than the battery. The check engine light doesn't even come on anymore.

I get the sentiment Taskiss is trying to impart, but dang, I just dropped a serious chunk of change on 'scheduled maintenance' (well over a grand). It was painful...

It appears that the KIA's computer was triggering it, as well as the fault code.

Everything involving cars is such a huge money sink. It's extremely annoying at times.

over drive cutting in and out check the transmission fluid, low fluid pressure will cause that. also a contaminated sensor will cause that. if the sensor contaminated with metal shavings you've got bigger problems.

Sounds like the vehicle was neglected, your oil gauge probably only shows pressure, I've seen many vehicles show good pressure when they only have 2 quarts of oil in them.
