I went to play De Bellis Antiquitatis at Advance the Colors Saturday. My Scottish Isles and Highlands took two first victories, very well. The third victory should have been mine. I was looking good, but with poor planning and great stupidity I ended up with a terrible loss, knocking me out of the running for prizes this year. And it's not one of those "well the dice just weren't with you" moments either. Of all the matches I played that day, that's the one I should have won. I had the ability to set the field as well the better force (heavy footman against archers)

I think I learned a valuable lesson, both about my own hubris and the need to protect my light units and not giving attacking bowmen a place to hide.

Moving on to more important things, I had a great time with my cousin, getting to see him and his new place again. I also am going to have the opportunity to work on the new website for Great Lakes Chapter of Historical Miniatures Gaming Society.

I was most disappointed that my Florida visit had to fall so that I couldn't come out again. I had a good time last year.

Sounds like a fun ruleset. Sorry for your loss! :D

It's dang simple (hense the name) and not horrifically expensive. The rules are separate from the figures so you can pick up loose armies fairly cheaply and ready ones (painted and based) for around $100 on E-bay. Most games take under an hour to play.

The convention here in the Great Lakes region tends toward 15mm so armies are fairly portable.

Oof, I just got sucked into an hour of looking at Micro Armour and reminiscing about the good old days. We used to use the Wargames Research Group Armor and Infantry, 1925-1950 rules, so when I noticed that DBA is put out by the same folks, that kind of piqued my interest.

What's very interesting is that the guy who ran our games, Mike Reese, was one of the authors of another set of rules for armor battles, Tractics. He preferred the WRG rules, though, for some reason.

There's a blast from the past, coming right down memory lane. I need to turn my son into a wargaming geek so I have someone to play with ...
