When someone asks for your honest opinion about something, they don't actually want an honest opinion. They want you to lie about it to validate their effort. That's one bridge I don't think I can un-burn. |

It depends on the person, the context of the situation, and the exact phrasing and other cues. |

Honesty + Tact = Win Being honest doesn't necessarily mean being blunt. Also if you employ this tactic, then you can also usually see that they are taking offense early enough to keep the bridge from burning completely down and only leave it slightly singed. All that said, I feel your pain and dislike people who ask for your opinions and then get all ruffled when you give them. |
