I've officially committed to traveling to Zambia, Africa late this spring for two weeks. A team from my local church will be visiting a missionary in country, joining him on his rounds in the African bush country. Nothing bad has happened yet but the tension is building in my stomach. I'm not afraid of going, nor do I doubt that God is going to work out the details in the fundraising. School is being worked out and getting off of work shouldn't be a problem. None the less I've got that feeling in the pit of my stomach, like i've just climbed into a roller coaster and surrendered control of my life as I'm chugging up that first large hill. So, well here goes nothing then.

'Scuse my blasphemy, but, sounds pretty **** cool. It would terrify me if I was going alone, or just with my wife or family, but with a group? Sounds pretty cool, and safe. There's nothing really going on in Zambia these days, other than your general African lawlessness. :D

But I know what you mean. I had an opportunity to go camping in Crimea back in Soviet times (when the region was still closed to foreigners). Would have been a fantastic time, but somehow I just got the heebie-jeebies about it. I ended up bailing out, actually. Of course, nothing bad happened, as far as I could tell.

But, I still think you should go. I would love to see the non-touristy aspect of life in Africa.

My parents have been to Zambia Maybe 10 times in the last 7 years doing mission trips. Where in Zambia are you going?
If you're doing medical mission be warned that Zambia has some odd rules about shipping some drugs into the country. Example: benadryl is heavily controlled but some other drugs are not.

It's pretty close to Livingston from what I understand.

My Pastor goes every couple of years, so he knows the drill pretty well. We have medical people who go, but it's mostly for evangelism and instruction.

Don't get confused and get on the plane to Zimbabwe. ;)

And definitely don't get on the plane to Zombia. The natives there are most decidedly not friendly to westerners. I keep hearing rumors of cannibalism too...

If we get the tickets we were looking at well have to make the mad dash from delta to the international term in ATL in about an hour.

First rule of Flight Club: Never talk about Flight Club.

Second rule of Flight Club: Never expect to do anything quickly with regards to the Atlanta airport (passing through security, arriving on time, departing on time, etc.)

I don't recall having any real problems arriving and departing Atlanta. Stay the hell out of Charlotte, though.

Oh, God, yes. Half an hour on the runway is not pleasant.

I like Charlotte. :( Never had any problems with them.

Atlanta's been horrible, in my experiences.

I always liked the air port in Atlanta. Passed through there five or six times in the Army. Granted, this was 20 some odd years ago.

Houston was nice as well. It was like a freaking mall that just happened to have an air port in it. I was there the day things went so wrong in Waco. Sat there for four hours with the hottest bartender I have ever seen watching it all go down. By the time my flight was ready to depart, I shouldn't have been able to walk.

Anyway...Africa. Have fun, take lots of pictures for us.

OOOOOOOWWWW- Go swim in Devil's Pool! That should be awesome. However I don't know if the time you are going is when you will be able to do that. One of the only reasons I would go to Africa is to see Victoria Falls. Maybe you will be staying near them off the Zambezi River. Take some awesome pictures

Awesome :). Prayers for you and can't wait to see the pics! I love seeing the local villages and the people. Someone I work with just got back from a mission trip to Africa. She said it was a sobering experience to see how they live.

Everything has come together with work school and finances. I'll be leaving Sunday. It still seems a little surreal.
