How the hell do you have a project given to you back on November 23rd due today January 11th and you still don't hand it into me? Are you freaking kidding? Now, I have to make parent phone calls this afternoon even though, I have sent numerous reminders home all through December. I handed parents freaking papers during parent conferences back in November with the dates and the entire project laid out, no stone left unturned, packet with the directions. I went over in class numerous time and even gave time for the kids to do research in class. What the ****? Why don't I just do the damn project for your child? That way they will be sure to get a perfect grade. This project is worth four test grades, this is going to make the kid fail the marking period if it isn't done. The worst part about it is the project was FUN!!!!. Many of the kids completed it and loved doing it. They had to construct a South American rainforest animal to hang from the ceiling with a 5x8 index card attached with their 6 paragraphs describing the key points I mentioned in the packet about the animal. They also had to hand the packet back in with the animal and do one side project with it. The side project was the best and easiest part because they had 4 to choose from and Glogster was the best one with each kid getting their own account and making online video posters. They loved this when I presented it to them and they started doing them in class. I am not surprised though of which ones, so far, have not handed in anything because this is their track record of handing in assignments. Oh and I have to grade separately all my IEP kids of course, because they get extra time according to law. It has been a month and half how much longer do you need? In fact the marking period closes next friday. A whole marking period. The one thing I ask for them to be responsible for and they still can't do it. ESPECIALLY, SINCE I DON"T GIVE HOMEWORK! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH. Don't get me wrong, I love all my kids and they are all unique all 99 of them, but what the hell. Do I baby some of them because they are all so good for me and never give me a hard time? This sucks. Personal responsibility, I think has totally made its way out the door. Oh and you want to know what pisses me off the most. My School District says that if a kid doesn't hand anything in I am supposed to still give them a 55%. WTF. No, I am not. You don't hand in your project you get a "0". That's it. I hope the superintendant gets upset with me and comes down on me because there are plenty of teachers and parents who do not approve of this new district grading policy anyway. Ok feel slightly better now that I got that off my chest. |

to be fair, I wouldn't have done the project based solely on the time frame nothing against you or your teaching methods - I think not having homework would've rocked! ...but I'm not doing a project between Thanksgiving and New Years. if it was assigned before the Thanksgiving break or after New Years and the start of a new semester/quarter, I can mentally deal with it. assigning something once the Christmas break mentality hits, though? |

Don't have a choice. The time I have to cover South America is in the second marking period, which starts the 2nd week of November and ends next Friday. Plus, they had there Math project in October due and Science Fair was due November, so this was my first of the two projects that I am required to cover in my curriculum. I don't have freedom to teach what I want. How I teach is my own, but the district requires all our schools to teach based on the same curricula. So as a Social Studies teacher I am required to do two major projects within the year and it can't be during the first marking period because the Math and Science teacher get those and the Language Arts teacher and myself have the Second Marking period. Plus, no one is allowed to give projects during the third marking period because of prepping for the PSSA's Tests. Thankfully, though the second project is not as in depth and they can start it right after the tests in the third marking period and have it done before the 4th marking period. Trying to teach today is very rigid with what they allow us to do because we all have to be at the same place in our curriculum by the end of the year. Everything currently is about our PSSA scores. (Sigh) Teaching to a test sucks! Thankfully, though my subject is not tested yet at the state level, not for another two years, so I have it a bit easier to teach more creatively than the Math, Science, and Language Arts teachers. However, I still have to reinforce all principle ideas that are taught in language arts with my subject as well. |

Try doing this at a job, and you will get something. A guy will come around to your desk and tell you 'GET THE @(*#@ OUT!" XD |
