The Glade 4.0

I've had my reservations for over a month, my flight to Nashville was to leave at 10AM today. American Airlines calls me at 4AM to tell me my flight was cancelled. The agent could only get me on a 3:45PM flight today, arriving in Nashville at 11:15PM.

So, I went to Southwest's website and managed to get a flight that departs at 11:25AM today. It cost me double what the American Airlines flight cost, but at least I will be getting to my destination at a more reasonable time, and Expedia managed to get me a full refund from American Airlines to boot!! (Plus on the return flight I have a short layover in Las Vegas )

This is only the second time I've used American Airlines. The first time was about 8 years ago, same destination. We got to Dallas/ Fort Worth airport and had to run to catch our connecting flight, only to be told they didn't have our reservations and they had no room for us!

Never again American Airlines!!

I've only flow American Airlines for a couple of flight legs. I've not had the troubles you mention, but my business partner (who's infinitely more experienced in these matters than I) told me long ago to pick an airline and stick with them, rather than jump at the cheapest fares. You'll earn points, promotions, etc. I settled on Southwest, and I've been quite happy with them.

Sorry for your troubles. Travel can suck.

American airlines all suck by comparison to other countries. That said I'm a gold AA card holder, because united is even worse.

I fly Southwest if I have a choice. They're fantastic, "bags fly free" and it makes me feel good that they've never had a plane crash. One case of slipping off an icy runway, but nothing serious. I don't usually fly far, though. Mostly just between here and Phoenix. Their web-only "Gotta Go" tickets for like $45 are awesome.

But for the most part, SW does have a good safety record. Only the one fatality in Chicago because of the icy runway.

The Kevin Smith story gave me pause as well, but I'm still proportioned well enough that my shoulders are wider than my fat, so yay! But I hate hate hate sitting in the middle...my shoulders are wider than the seat, and I'm very big on personal space, so I fold in on myself and it turns into immense pain before the flight's end.

It's been my experience that the quality of the airline is in direct proportion to how close you are to one of their major hubs. If you're flying out of a hub, you'll do pretty well. If you're not, then there's a good chance you'll have a poor experience.

I usually fly Southwest and we even had a free ticket from their Rapid Rewards credit card, however they didn't have any flights to my destination in my time frame that were considered "free". That's why I went to the next best thing, which turned out to be the next worst thing.

Anyway, I made it to my destination, albeit a little later than planned. My son was in rehearsals by the time I checked in at the hotel, so we didn't get together until much later last night. Hopefully sometime between his spending time with the GF for her birthday and rehearsals we will be able to get together for a litle while today.

Saturday night I will be watching a series of performances of student-written one act plays at MTSU, two that my son wrote and one that he is directing.
