Copout is legal in Scrabble in it's non-hyphenated form. Enough people are too stupid to recognize that it's a hyphenated word that it has become legal.

Meanwhile, buttsex - which appears non-hyphenated far more often than copout - is not legal as per the official Scrabble dictionary.

Last time I checked, "****" was in the official scrabble dictionary. Years ago, my now-late grandmother played it one day to much laughter. Someone challenged it and checked, it was there.

This is why I don't play scrabble with an official scrabble dictionary.

We choose one of the traditional ones (OED, MW) at the start, and then specify no proper nouns.

Makes everything much less frustrating.

I've also started playing that you have to be able to define the word to play it, since I got tired of people playing high point value words that they'd seen somewhere but had no clue what meant.

My grandmother loved scrabble. I only ever played it with her.

I'll probably never play it again, because I really don't like the game, but I still miss playing, because I associate it with her.
