Or so my idiot brain decided to dream last night. Which is pretty weird, because the semester is over and grades have already been posted.

I hate you, brain.

I have to admit you're pretty handy sometimes, though.

Awesome!

Also, I never had that dream...until about a year after I graduated college. Why it picked then to start, I have no idea.

I still have the dream that I'm at the end of the semester and forgot I enrolled in a class.

And I'm out of college 12 years.

Same here. It's never happened while I've actually been in college. But 7 or 8 years ago? ALL THE DAMN TIME.

This is my variation.

I've had both of those flavors of the "missed your final exam" dream.

I've also had a rather strange variation of the naked at high school dream, where I'm intellectually aware that I graduated ten years ago, am wondering why I'm even there, but also am trying to remember what year I'm in and where my locker was that year so I can get my clothes out and put them back on.

I had that too for a while, but then I was able to wake myself up by recognizing that I didn't have any classes anymore...so then my brain decided to craft a persistent dreamscape wherein I had reenrolled in college for a second major (you know, for kicks!), just so it could put me in a realistic "holy **** you've forgotten your exam" scenario.

Go go brain.

GOOMH.

Except, weirdly enough, for me it has been re-enrolling in High School, for various reasons.

I have the "back in high school even though I'm an adult, "naked at high school" and "forgot I was in a certain class" dreams every so often. I really hate them.

This reminds me.... I've been trying to accomplish lucid dreaming for about a month now. I haven't had any luck yet, but my dream recall is gradually improving. More importantly, I've learned something about myself:

The process of dreaming makes my brain act like a total dick.

I'm serious. It's been trolling me hard. A couple days into my effort, I had a dream about enrolling in classes at a new school for the spring. When I got to my first class (which was held in a huge atrium for some reason), the prof launches into this lecture about Wake Initiated Lucid Dreaming (a.k.a. WILDing). I had attempted but failed that very technique the night the dream occurred. I swear it was mocking me. But does my idiot dream self pick up on this? No, of course not!

Then a few days later I had another dream that I can't remember at all except for one part. I remember looking at the ground and seeing a pack of crossbow bolts from HL2. Here's the kicker: I distinctly remember thinking in the dream that it was really sad and funny that my mind couldn't come up with a less obviously fake prop. And yet, I didn't twig to the fact that, hey dumbass! You're dreaming!

ARGH.

I've never intentionally tried to dream.. honestly, it never occurred to me.

I have the most lucid dreams when I take a 5mg melatonin before I go to bed.

I also tend to have more lucid dreams when I'm really really tired (lack of sleep tired).

Pizza before bed means I get...

The power of really, really slow flight and guns that don't kill anything.

I have never had the naked in class dream, but I do get the "forgot I was in this class" dream. It only started happening several years after I got out of college. Some of them are very realistic and it always takes a bit to convince myself that it wasn't real. I'll wake up and be stressed out about how far behind I am in class. Wait...what class...I'm not in any class.

Anther one I get has a much more...obvious source. And that is the dream I have where I am "waking" up in my bed and see a spider crawling up towards my face. That usually ends with me waking up for real and jumping up and turning on the light looking for the spider for a bit before I realize it's a dream. The whole dreaming about waking up which leads directly into actually waking up makes the line between dream and reality very blurry. The source of that is that when I was home for the summer from college (years ago) a brown recluse came down from the ceiling, landed on my eyelid, and bit me when I brushed it aside in my sleep. Two weeks as the elephant man made an indelible mark on my psyche I guess.

My wife has dreams about giant bugs from which she wakes up in a total panic. This happens once every couple months or so.
