We had squalls last night in the Northeast. For some reason, New York decided not to pre-treat I-87, and it was almost completely snow covered by midnight, with ice underneath. In one 2-mile stretch, we saw the aftermaths of 10 or so accidents (someone hit an exit sign, lots of collisions, etc).

I had two cars trying to merge onto the highway, so I let them in. Someone in a pickup tried to quickly pass me, realized too late that there were now cars there in front of me, swerved, overcorrected, and then lost control. He barely missed the car in front (2 cars ahead of me, maybe 5 car-lengths ahead of me), and slid head-on into the guardrail. Thankfully, he wasn't moving that fast.

The roads apparently only got worse, as there was a 30-car pileup on the same stretch of road just a few hours later (http://www.fox23news.com/news/local/sto ... spx?rss=39).

We got off of 87 an exit or two later, at the Garden State Parkway, and everything had been treated and the roads were just wet. Thankfully, we made it home safely. I don't need to repeat that any time soon!

Stay safe...I really hate idiot drivers that don't know how to drive in bad weather.

Let's not forget pedestrians who cross in front of your assuming you'll stop. How I managed to not hit that moron is a mystery to me. The side streets are slick.

I learned to drive in western PA in the winter, where there are some mountains. So far, I've been very glad for that.

Every time someone tries to talk me into moving east, the truth of winter ensures I will remain a left coaster. Stay safe and warm back there my friends.

Every year when the trees start to change color, I curse myself for not finding a way to stay in Panama.

Hubby always tells me he was attracted to me because of my legs but decided to marry me when, on a trip to my sister's in Tahoe in winter, I was able to throw chains on my truck tires in 5 minutes. :P

My dad taught his daughters well :)
