People who take widescreen high def video at 16:9, and compress it to fit on a 4:3 shaped screen (despite being distorted and making people look weird and thin), then upload the 4:3 video to a 16:9 format like Youtube, still compressed and distorted, but now letterboxed on the sides? Those people need a brick to the face.

This is proof there is no god. That this is allowed to happen. See, the smart thing to do would have been to program the accelerometers to not allow video to record unless the phone was in landscape orientation.

There are some very few situations where vertical video is appropriate. That does not include any situation where the video has any small likelihood of ending up on YouTube.
