Get Terro ant killer.

I'll second the Terro. Great stuff, haven't seen them inside since using it. And I don't feel like it's terribly toxic in the way it's used.

Ants are a California (Southern at least) thing. Summers are the worst. I used to duct tape the walls, my wife thought I had gone over the edge.

Edit: Oh, and yeah, **** ants.

Which Terro ant product and will it kill my dogs?

The one I use is Terro Liquid Ant Baits. Image

It comes with little squares that you tear off and put the stuff on, and then lay it in the path of the ants. It's a bit sweet, I think, so the ants are attracted to it, which may be an issue for a dog. The ants eat it, go back to the colony, die, poison it, etc., etc., etc. The instructions say to keep it away from kids and pets. Not sure what I would recommend in the presence of a dog, other than duct tape. Off course, the dog would chew that, too.

The active ingredient in Terro is borax. Great stuff. (The MSDS is here: http://www.co.marin.ca.us/depts/PK/Main ... O_msds.pdf)

I actually just put it directly on the counter (e.g., behind the sink), and then make sure I clean it well after a day or two. It doesn't spread much after you put a drop or two down.

In 2-3 days, no more ants.

Put the Terro where your dog can't reach it. The ants will find it.

Can this be stuck to a tree's bark safely? I have a humongous ant problem and a dog that likes to get into stuff she shouldn't, but if it will stick to tree bark, I can put it where she can't get to it and the ants can! Maybe I will get more than one or two apricots and a couple of cherries this year.

Hm. It usually gets put on a piece of paper with a nice sheen to it; impermeable, I guess, now that I think of it. I think on tree bark, it would soak in and not be effective. You might be able to put it in a little cup or something and hang it, I suppose.
