How many bibles are mocked and defaced in the US? Should Christians pick up this behavior, maybe it will curtail hollywood mocking them?

Christians just have different hot buttons. It wasn't all that long ago that we had abortion clinic bombings and it was just last year that a doctor was flat out murdered in his church.

That said, there seems to be a much larger minority of Muslims that are over the edge. My personal feeling is that it's largely due to the poor conditions in most of the Muslim world, so the moderates get very little traction for their views.

Because we all know an occasional nutjob shooting someone or blowing something up is the same as an entire mob in a major city attacking a U.N. building.

Angry violent Christians come in singletons, angry violent muslims frequently come in mobs. This may or may not be because of the religions themselves, but trying to pretend that the situations are identical is silly.

Here's another difference. As a Christian I have no problem saying the abortion bombers don't speak for me and have it wrong and here is why. Most other Christians feel the same way.

You don't see Muslims around the world opening condemning this kind of stuff and willing to explain from the Koran how it is wrong.

To play devil's advocate (because I agree with your general point), I strongly suspect there are many Muslims around the world that are just as disgusted by such actions as we are, but you are right, we do not see them, probably because of the focus of the media.

Well, it's the same reason we don't hear about acts of violence carried about by Christians in the Middle East. Do you really think it's Islam that's violent? Our Muslims don't act like this. They're here largely because they wanted to get away from the religious crazies.

This made me lol in a not-mean-spirited way for some reason.

We don't hear about that largely because there are very, very few Christians in the Middle East relative to the number of muslims, and so they can only commit so much of the violence. More importantly, if they did, they'd likely be overwhelmed and slaughtered. When they do, such as when the Coptics and Islamic conservatives were fighting in Egypt, we did hear about it. If you were to look back at 80's Lebanon, you'd find that Christians received more than their share of negative press even though the fighting was pretty much even across all the various sects involved.

Violence is more prevalent, worldwide, on the part of muslims. There are a number of reasons for this, more than enough for dozens of threads discussing them; it is not Islam itself that causes the violence, much like blacks are more likely to commit serious crimes than whites for a myriad of reasons, but none of those reasons is their skin color.

Muslims are culturally behind the rest of the world. The more archaic your culture, the more violent it is too.

I worked with a Muslim guy from Palestine, right around the Israeli border. We were sitting around on a slow afternoon one day, and he's talking about going go school as a child. The Israeli army would be shelling the city, the PLF is shooting back with rocket-propelled grenades, and he's walking to school. Throughout the conversation, he's not placing any blame on anybody, he's just telling a story. The way he told it, on any given day one group of knuckleheads would just decide to start shooting, and the other side would shoot back. They were looking for a reason to shoot at each other, and he was stuck in the middle.

So this is an afternoon in December. My co-worker is fasting for Ramadan, which I know because an hour before I'd gone to get lunch and offered to bring him back something. Well, while he's telling the story, he's putting up Christmas lights. Over the course of the week, this guy has decorated the entire math department office. He thought the western observation of Christmas was really cool. He liked that the entire city was decorated. He thought it was fun, and he wanted to do it, too.

Muslims are usually uneducated and uneducated people like to fight, because they're closer to our savage uneducated ancestors who caused 10% death rate to all men by homicide.

Muslim population: 1.4 billion.
Muslim nobel prize winners: 6

Jewish population: 12 million
Jewish nobel prize winners: 165

The house or the field Muslims? Our house Muslims are pretty well behaved but the field ones tend to get a little uppity.

They probably do exist, but for what ever reason you don't see them in the media. Hassan (Ground Zero Guy) and pretty much every other Muslim who is asked in public interviews refuses to call Hamas a terrorist organization. There's no shortage of Pastors/priests/whathaveyas willing to say it's wrong to bomb abortion clinics, that God doesn't hate homosexuals with a four letter expletive, and willing to call Tim McVeigh a terrorist. If there were people willing/wanting to stand up on public airways the media that wants us to be pro-Muslim would be blaring them all over the place.
