I know we've had a spate of similar threads recently, and I don't really want to pick that scab (though really, how depressing is it that there are enough stories like this to get tired of hearing about them?), but thought this interesting.

Thoughts? Smarting off to a cop isn't the smartest thing in the world, but the response was far beyond the pale.

Smarting off? I don't think so. That was completely unreasonable of the cop.

Lol, "obstructing a police officer". What a **** crock.

Wow. That was completely unnecessary.

But I've got to say, this sort of thing isn't the norm. Most police officers are not like these assholes. The way some of you guys talk here make it seem like every single police officer does this seven times a day, which isn't the case.

According to the FBI, there are (according to the 2009 data reports, the most recent published) 706,886 total law enforcement officers in 14,614 agencies in the US. Now, depending on the percentage of them that are assholes, and depending on the distribution of them across the different agencies, it's entirely possible that somewhere there's an agency comprised entirely of assholes, who do, in fact, each beat people seven times a day.

True, but then again, how often do you hear about a doctor/lawyer/firefighter/EMT/pilot/bus driver/teacher/whatever being disrespected in the course of their job and responding by beating the crap out of someone? The fact that cops can legitimately use violence in the course of their duties under certain circumstances sure seems to result in them using it illegitimately far more often than other people do when on the job.

There's also a lot of people who own cameras and/or cellphones. Combine your statistics and this fact and you'll get plenty of bad cop videos.

dude, no argument there Midgen. I think it is more of a trait of people who live in Vegas. And I will not exclude myself from amongst that crowd.

Why do people keep attempting to communicate with those who only speak force in languages they do not understand?

Again we show that obstruction is just what you are charged with so the cop can cover their ***. Disgusting.
