I don't think you can get rid of political parties completely (silly free association), but you could certainly disentangle them from the ballot process.

I have no delusion that he US Political system could be fixed.

This is strictly about the entertainment value.

We need to get more Alan Green's on the ballot. He was the most entertaining part of the 2010 election, and I don't even live in South Carolina.

Fools in RI went the other way. Our first ballot option every year is the option to vote straight ticket red or blue.

I always get mixed up when you use colors, primarily because it's reversed here. The Tories are blue, the Liberals are red. (And...we've got Orange and Green in parliament, too. No relation to the Irish of the same color.)

We have Greens too, the environmentalists. Orange is usually reserved for the undecided swing vote or some other party, and is not universally used either way.

We had a green party candidate elected to parliament last week during the federal election. Sure, it's only one seat, but it's their first seat. I'm no green, but if one is going to have political parties at all, more parties is better.

Independants get shown in grey.

Orange is our "New Democrat Party" (always shortened to NDP.) They're the most left-leaning of our parties. They've never held power at the federal level. (They are currently the "official opposition," with more seats than the have ever had.) The liberals here are very centrist. Our last Liberal government under Jean Chretien balanced the budget for 10 years, payed down the national debt substantially, and cut taxes considerably.

Hey! Our Liberals have been running further right than your Republicans!
