Long flights sitting in middle seats are agony to me, in large part because of my dogged insistence on not intruding into another person's shoulder space. Which means four hours of sitting hunched down into myself. Bloody miserable.

Ugh, me too. Same with theatres, concerts, sporting events... They designed those seats for Asian midgets I swear.

My son has the same problem with the shoulders. Thought that was rare.

I like how Southwest handles this. If they are unsure a person will fit in a seat they have them sit in a seat in the terminal to check. If the person does not fit, they are given the choice of buying a second ticket if the flight is not full. If the flight is full, they are bumped off the flight.
