When people cry and ***** and moan about executive compensation bonuses during a bankruptcy, all they are doing is announcing to other members of the conversation their ignorance regarding potential retention and knowledge transfer strategies, organizational morale, and ability to contextualize executive pay.

1. Salaries are generally a minor part of any major executives total compensation, so this symbolic gesture is just that, symbolic.
2. It's really hard for me to not see that as "Oh ****, someone called us on doing this now we have to look good and repentant. Had they been honest about doing the "right thing" they would have slashed their salaries from the start, not after it because news and put them in a bad light.

The 17% reduction in healthcare benefits is avoid the Cadillac Insurance Tax. Maybe the union would rather have the same level of healthcare benefits and the employee-paid (not employer) penalty tax for having healthcare above the ACA mandated level of care.

I don't care about the rest of this argument, but blaming the executives for a problem Obama created and sledgehammered on everyone is bullshit.

Everyone is cutting healthcare benefits, because no one's employees can afford to pay taxes equal to 90% of their insurance's total premium cost.
