Moose: Jags are no longer owned by Ford, and haven't been for a few years. It's why their quality is improving, actually.

Really, DFK!, the quality is getting better under Tata Motors?

If I were in the market for a ~$30k luxury car, I would totally go for a Hyundai Genesis instead of any of BMW's offerings. Hell, I'd still take the Genesis even if my budget were ~$50k. That's not a slam on BMW; the Genesis is just a really impressive vehicle at its price point.

It would have to be. Everything is better with Tatas.

I've got a Hyundai now, and I haven't been impressed. Granted, it's a Sonata and it's used but even then it shouldn't be blowing head gaskets at 75,000 miles.

It sems like half of the cars in my condo and work parking areas are BMW's. The other half are VW's, Audi's or Ginormous SUV's.

None of these interest me.

My car sits in my garage, or grinds up and down the freeway gridlock for 95% of it's existence. It's driving/handling qualities are mostly meaningless.

My priorities when I choose a car are, physical comfort and safety (the two go hand in hand for me being 6'6" tall). I need to be able to sit up comfortably, and still see stoplights, and have good vision in all directions.

Safety features come next, although most new vehicles sold are fine from a safety standpoint as long as they meet my comfort/visibility needs.

Next is price. Initial price, operational expenses like fuel and scheduled maintenance, reliability, and cost to insure.

It seems silly to me to pay $45k for a car to slog up and down the freeway at nine MPH when I can do the same thing in a $25k car. Since when I'm not slogging up and down the freeway, it's sitting in my garage or in a parking stall at work, I'm not getting value from it as it ages other than a freeway slogging commuter.

Edit: I should add. I have a rule. I do not buy a car I can't afford to pay cash for.

I am so glad I no longer commute in on busy highways. And I have similar practicality concerns with my cars, however...

...If I followed this rule, I would not be able to own a car. Not even a decent used car.

Speaking generally: yes.

I'm sure there are specific areas where they are not improving.

That's just sad, DFK!.

I would like to see them start making watercraft though, so they would have a Tata Motorboat available for purchase.

I guess I find it sad because, Tata shouldn't be able to make better cars than Ford.

Ah, I see.

I disagree in terms of "able to." Should they make them better? Maybe not. Able to? That's just a question of solid design and manufacturing.

The "sadder" item about it, to me, is that Ford had all these great luxury nameplates and just let them rot in quality hell. Jag, Land Rover, Aston Martin.... crap for years until they all got sold.

Tata seems pretty cool. Tactical and armored vehicles too. I had no idea they'd acquired all those labels.
