First off, I will reiterate that RD is a godless liberal with no intent but to troll good, honest, god-fearing forumites all day long.

Second, the reason nobody's had any sort of discussion yet is because by the fifth or sixth post, any potential for discussion on demographics breakdown had been hijacked. I move that instead of trying to defend his position, Nephyr use his super mod powers to split the offending posts into a new thread titled, "Religious People Acting Butthurt." Then you can all go do something fun, like argue with Taly about what the Bible says.

Alternatively, what we're seeing here is everyone who's mad that Nephyr locked their previous religious butthurt thread continuing to vent their frustrations. Lots of luck, Nephyr.

We might have had potential for that discussion if you hadn't started that line off with comments about people supposedly not knowing muslims existed before 9/11. Despite your pretensions to being well-informed and looking down on the ignoramuses you supposedly share the world with, there's no point in even having a discussion with you if you're just going to treat it as a platform to make stupid generalizations about people you've convinced yourself you're better than because calculus.

For example, we might have gone into the fact that rural areas provide far fewer employment opportunities for people to emigrate into, and those that DO (illegals) tend to come from other countries that are Christian, and that immigration is facilitated by geography. People coming from Hindu and Muslim countries (for example) are likely to concentrate in cities because of employment and to have familiar people around them, just like past immigrants tended to congregate ethnically even when they shared religious views. In fact, they don't just congregate in cities but in PARTICULAR cities; hence why Michigan has an incredibly high concentration of Iraqi and other muslim immigrants.

But no, it's more interesting and apparently discussion-worthy to hurf-durf about stereotypes of rednecks.

Ah.

so bringing up a topic you don't like = implying someone is guilty of a felony

Got it.

This might gain more traction if you were a little more inclined to admit that you made some very ill-advised posts in the past.

Bringing up a familiar subject starts familiar arguments, effectivly "poking" someone. We're an in-bred group of opinionated and argumentative folks who have their hot-buttons just like all folk do.

I know your button TheRiov, and I'm sure RD knew exactly what button he pushed and exactly who would feel poked when he started yet another religious themed thread. We can play "hide the intent" all day long, but wouldn't honesty be more refreshing?

I don't get this. You're... supporting his argument that a large portion of the country hadn't heard of muslims before 9/11. The only issue you seem to take with it is his underlying motives, which I think you're making some pretty big assumptions about. He didn't say or imply anything about rednecks being ignorant, it was a pretty matter-of-fact statement.

Dude.. do you seriously think that because muslims are rare in rural areas that rural dwellers hadn't ever heard of them? Do you think television doesn't exist out there or something, prior to 9/11?

No, I'm not supporting his argument. That's completely asinine. Also, don't play cute about "assuming his underlying motives" or it being a "matter of fact statement". There's pretty much nothing OTHER than an underlying motive, aside from possibly INCREDIBLE stupidity (and Coro is not a stupid man) that would actually make anyone unaware of muslims prior to 9/11.

Unacquainted with muslims beyond a superficial familiarity, perhaps, but that's not what his supposedly 'matter of fact" statement said.

First, I haven't read all the posts in this thread as they seem to have, let's say, run off course.

Now, it's worth noting that while I believe his last thread was trolling, as discussed in that thread, I also said there was nothing wrong with that. We are all adults and can read/post whatever we want as far as I'm concerned.

Also, I don't think this post was trolling at all, as there was nothing particularly offensive that I saw. I did, however, notice that he's been somewhat focused on religion of late, and pointed that out.

So, in short, folks can post whatever they want, troll if they like, and point out people's obsessions all they like, as far as I'm concerned. And yes, you can all get your panties in a bunch in the process if you like.
