I think the salient argument against the political economics in the US is that they seem to believe they are wise enough to be able to manage the economy out side of providing basic regulations. Something so complex and interwoven as all the economic factors in the US, you would need to be prescient to make it work as you plan. When it all blows up in the citizens faces, they blame someone else.
