Not sure if this belongs in rants or here....

This was plastered all over my friends pages today. A friend of a friend posted this:

"ATTENTION ALL PARENTS AND ALL THOSE WHO WERA SILLYBANDS..... There is a new rule that kids MUST take their sillybands off to sleep, swim and bathe!!! This a little boy I know who told his Dad that his wrist hurt and when he removed the sillybands, this was underneith and they were imbedded in his arm!!!"

...and then 6 or 7 moms were all like "ZOMG! that's terrible! Put it in the newspaper! Tell someobody! I'm taking away my kid's silly bands like RIGHT NOW! Oh that poor child!" etc, etc.

WTH is wrong with these women.

That didn't happen to that kid overnight. That's a case of parental neglect, not a faulty product.

If I let my son wear his socks for a week in a row without ever taking them off, or let him wear the same pair of undies for a week without taking them off, don't you think he'd get jungle rot or something??

It's so irritating when parents don't pay attention to their kid's activities and/or their bodies and then when something goes wrong they don't take personal responsibility, they have to go and blame it on someone/something else.
Not to mention the effect on the kid...I seriously doubt the parents are gonna say "well duh, junior! what did you think would happen if you never took them off?"

Grrrrrr! It's parents like this that ruin good things for everybody and churn out kids that take no responsibility for any of their actions.

I think the parent should be forced to wear a sillyband until similar effects are produced.

I thought the image was pornographic when it first loaded... maybe it should have NSFW around the spoiler.

Yeah, something like that....said friend had done that "share" thing. The original poster had created the post and uploaded the picture.
Now, as to whether she actually got the photo from someone she knew or not....I can't verify that.

This is where it originated. (I don't know the woman, nor do any of my friends...)

I am compelled to ask, What's a Sillyband?

OK, so, I think, don't be lazy, go look it up. WTF? Collectible rubber bands? Stupidest thing ever, obviously.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm sure these will be hitting my kids' consciousness in the next month or so.

They've now got knockoffs out there, so the fad should die soon.

My 6-yr-old daughter adores them, but they don't allow them at her schools because the trading was getting disruptive. If they wear too many at a time, they get a little constricting, but that wasn't a huge parental dilemma. ("Hey, take some off.") Some parents are stupid.

my younger two love those things... but nothing like that has been allowed to be worn during sleepy time. Makes sense... wear something that can cut off circulation if it gets twisted up for bed is asking for trouble.

My oldest grandson wears them. I don't really get the concept of paying three bucks for twelve rubber bands. I told him I'd take him to the dollar store and get a hundred rubber bands for a dollar but he didn't like the idea.

Your grandson unfortunately falls prey to this meme instead of creating his own look by wearing rubber bands. Wearing simple rubber bands would make him stand out and become much cooler, in my opinion.

Not anymore. They were cool last fall when they were on back-order and hard to find. By the time Christmas rolled around, everyone had them and they were passe by the third month of this year.

They're just hitting their peak here. My younger one got a 4-leaf clover one, her only one, and it's green, her favorite color. My 17-year-old wouldn't let up for like 4 days trying to get her to trade because she didn't have that one, and it was somehow cooler than all of hers.. because she didn't have it, presumably. (*facepalm*)

My wife has had to confiscate a few when she was subbing. They first made a big appearance the last month of the last school year.

Really? It's already blown through and over with down here. Mississippi is ahead on a trend?

Of course...it would be something retarded like expensive rubber bands.....

It's like a hurricane. You guys get it first, at full force and we get rained on later.

They snapped into metro Detwah this summer. My 9yo daughter has a metric bazillion of them on her arms these days.
