He had been excommunicated from his own church by the end, and his daughter was apologizing for him.

I'm not saying anti-gay hatred will die. But he's no longer contributing to it.

Seriously, though, what a strange man. Fought hard for civil rights in the '60s, only to succumb to what I can only describe as insanity later in life.

I don't take pleasure in anyone's death, but that doesn't mean that I have to miss him. I'm glad his particular brand of hatred is no longer being sown, and that's pretty much the end of my feelings toward him.


That shouldn't be surprising at all. The people whose civil rights he was championing have a very high percentage of people with similar views on homosexuality to him.

I never realized he garnered 30% of the popular vote in the Democratic primary for US Senator in 1992.

From what I've seen, his wife is every bit as batshit as he was. She's also extremely intelligent and is (or was) a professional lawyer, so she knows how to persuade people. This isn't over.
