It is similarly self-referential. Perhaps you didn't the two speeches, but I did. The differences aren't stylistic; they're substantive. How Bush uses first person pronouns is entirely different. He talks about things he did with other people; he speaks of himself in relation to other policy makers, dignitaries, etc.; more often than not. And if he speaks solely of himself, it's how he will handle a task charged to him. Obama, on the other hand, attempts to personalize his connection to everyone without mentioning specific instances for the most part. This leads to a lot of "When I was on the campaign trail", "When I was elected", "When I took the White House", statements. And, ultimately, my conclusion is Bush had better speech writers. As for your numbers, your first set scans a PDF inclusive of other documents for Bush's speech.

I gave you the links. Bush's pronoun use is not nearly as self-referential.

Khross: I did read the speeches. I used a different source for Bush's speech, not the PDF you linked, I stand by my numbers.
