Well, you'd find a woman and get together with her, make sure she's pregnant with a girl, then 18 years and 9 months later, you take the girl down to the street corner.....

Yes, I'm JUST KIDDING!! Relax.

Abandonment and occasional negative reinforcement.

I tried it when I was a kid. I inhaled. I knew it was illegal, and the statute of limitations is long past.

Didn't like the experience and all it did was give me the munchies, except once when my roommate got some stuff that was high end Columbian. He made love to the couch, I talked to the toilet about life on other planets. After that, I never really wanted to do that again. The toilet was closed minded about the possibility.

Seriously, haven''t smoked since I was 21. No use for it now and the last thing I need is the munchies.

But, as with FarSky, I support your freedom to smoke it if you need or want it.

You're tossing out quite a few variables, even if what you say is true (as I suspect it is).

Many employers test. For example, mine does not, unless I get in an accident. Legality would change these corporate policies. Not worth the risk of losing my job. Doesn't it stay in your system a while?

Then there's the sad fact that I'm 34, I've been out of college for more than 10 years, and I wouldn't know where to go to buy anything if I wanted it.

I don't smoke now, but I would periodically if it were legal, I think. It's not the law that's stopping me. If you handed me a joint today, I'd probably hit it. Not going looking for it though.

IIRC, THC generally remains long enough to generate positive test results a month after use, on average.

Provided you've smoked enough ...

Non-DoD/DoT tests are generally passable within 72 hours for the once a week smoker.

That's another thing. Would/could employers still want/be able to conduct THC and drug free workplace policies? Is there a reason we don't want our workers stoned that transcends morality and legality?

DOD testing is what I'm familiar with.

There's a difference between being stoned and having THC positive in your system. 72 hours after you smoke a joint, you're most likely going to be positive; you are not likely to still be high from it.

Still, there's no reason marijuana legalization would mean abandoning all safety regulations, government, or employer-created, regardless of the fantasies of some people.

DOD testing is what I'm familiar with.
Metabolite saturation is an interesting; you can pass even DoD tests while partaking in a casual manner without using any of the available for money cheats out there. DoT tests are MORE stringent than DoD and Three Letter tests.

THC is THC, and in isolation, does not get you high. The reason different weed strains have measurably different effects has less to do with THC concentration and more to do with all the other chemicals available in the particular plant that produced your buds. Organic farming has demonstrated, likewise, that it's not any man-made additives that causes these things.

And the University of Mississippi and the FDA know the following things: weed works better than EVERY alternative for EVERY prescription use in the original FDA human testing (of which 4 participants STILL get their government grown weed (it's fantastic)).

I don't know anything about that. By "familiar" I meant I'm familiar with the testing procedures, and the advertised window in which the test will come up positive. The tests are actually conducted by a contractor AFAIK and I do not know anything (nor concern myself with) the chemical test procedure itself.

It does not surprise me, however, that DOT tests are more sensitive; the DOD tests are not designed to catch people high; they're designed to get drug users out of the military, high on duty or not.

I cannot imagine a situation, however, in which a person would get a marijuana high and not test positive for THC, as a practical matter.

Oh, and the University of Mississippi knows pot works because they grow it for the FDA tests.

I can imagine lots. Like I said, urinalysis requires metabolite saturation. If you haven't smoked for 30 days, you can pass a urinalysis the day after you blazed up (without using for money cheats).

Then we'd need a better test of intoxication /impairment versus concentration. It just seems the people (in general) that want to legalize it haven't thought it all through.

What is there to think through? If your employer wants to test you, them's the breaks.

This is not necessarily true. Some employers don't allow their employees to smoke, and do test for nicotine and fire people who test positive. The amount of employers that test for drugs would probably decrease if they were legalized, but some still would. The government isn't forcing or compensating employers for doing drug tests, so the employers must see some value in doing them and that wouldn't change if the drugs were to suddenly become legal.
