That's why Russia owned Alaska at one point. You're also idiots who, when this is pointed out to you, want to continue making cracks in order to deflect attention from not being suitably educated in geography.

What did the grizzly bears and puffins that live on the Aleutian islands learn about Russia? Since the question was, verbatim, "What insight into Russian actions particularly in the last couple of weeks, given the proximity of the state to Russia, given you?"

Note this is not a geography question ^

I am sorry I trod upon your Palin boner a little bit. You can go back to jerking it to pictures of her holding shotguns in a bikini now

You can stop being a complete idiot now. The Aleutian islands are American soil, and unlike the CONUS, some of them actually DID get invaded in the past. Just because not a lot of people live there does not mean security concerns of Alaskans (or for that matter Hawaiians or Guam residents or any other outlying area) somehow aren't valid, real, or of national importance. Alaska is a state coequal with all the others, and just because it has the gall to not be contiguous with the 48 others and be very underpopulated does not make them any less of national importance.

Palin's insight was that Russia is not the anemic, struggling nation of 1991, and just because they don't have huge numbers of troops east of the Fulda Gap does not mean they are our friends or they are not a security issue. That she didn't state that outright is because she's an Alaskan and that's a lot more obvious when you live RIGHT NEXT to Russia as opposed to on the other side of the world in **** Cleveland. She messed up by not making it clear to a CONUS audience what she meant and assuming that people would understand the Alaskan perspective, but it was anything but "Garbage" coming out of her mouth.

SNL made fun of it because it's SNL, they will make fun of almost anything, and they just happened to have an actress that looked like her; not because they have some insight into how the dumb Alaskan rednecks are paranoid about Russia. It's hilarious that you are talking about trolling by bringing up Russian actions that confirm exactly what Palin was saying. Oh wait, that's right. You have no idea what you're talking about, so you just toss "trolling" out there right before engaging in your own trolling about bears and puffins.

What insight? Stop putting words in her mouth. Go watch the interview I linked. Her answer was literally "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska." Thanks for the geography lesson, how very insightful of you to notice that you neighbor the biggest country in the **** world. From that Aleutian island populated by no one, did you see all the way across Siberia to Moscow, right into the Kremlin? Or did you see the 340,000 subsistence fishermen that populate Kamchatka?

And I just explained what the implications of this would be from an Alaskan perspective and why it would seem insightful to them. Maybe if you didn't regard seeing remarks from a perspective other than your own as "putting words in her mouth" you wouldn't be having this problem.

Ahh, so of course Alaskans are idiots for feeling uncomfortable with a nation right next door that has one of the largest nuclear arsenals in the world, a large military, and a series of leaders whose belligerant attitude is barely disguised if at all, and having a different perspective on this than people that live on the other side of the **** planet.

Oh no wait, maybe it's just Palin. She's somehow the only Alaskan that thinks this.

No, the real issue here is that you are one of the nitwits that bought into the "Sarah Palin is an idiot" narrative hook, line, and sinker, and now you're getitng your panties all in a bunch that people are pointing out her remarks are not nearly as stupid as you're makign them out to be. Contrary to you thinking this is some Palin fap-fest, I'm not particularly enamored of her, and I doubt very much Coro is either. Nevertheless, she fell afoul of a media that was absolutely enamored of Obama, and a liberal establishment outraged that the Republicans had dared nominate a woman for vice-president, and worse, a woman who doesn't hold appropriate liberal-approved female viewpoints!

Seriously get over it. She's a political non-factor these days, and the only reason she's even relevant to this discussion is that her physical appearance unfortunatlely coincided with Tina Fey's.

In reading this thread, particularly the examples provided, I have come to the following conclusions:

Both sides work very hard to develop a cult of personality around their candidate. This makes sense as they become less easily criticized.

I think both Reagan and Obama have achieved this status.

Political opponents are mean.

DE needs anger management courses.

You need to not take this place so seriously. If I actually hd any problems with anger, they wouldn't manifest themselves by pointing out stupidity on an internet message board.

Oh, sounded rather silly, did that? Good. Now you have some idea how ridiculous you sound talking about me "needing anger management courses."

Well, I'm not going to lose any sleep over that. Whether or not you are actually angry is irrelevant, you have consistently shown an inability to be challenged without resorting to name calling, insults, or some such other methods designed to denigrate the poster. It's bullying, or attempted bullying anyway. It's toxic to the debate and the board.

But hey, that's just my opinion, carry on.

I've shown no such thing. I've consistently advocated a return to the ruleset we used to have. Unfortunately we don't have it, so I adhere to the standard we DO have.. and since you're a major part of setting that standard and engage in exactly the same behaviors I do, you have no one to blame but yourself. Don't talk about me, talk about the issue. That's all I want, but you (and plenty of other people) have proven completely unable to do so... unsurprisingly, because in the absence of enforced rules, people will do whatever they can get away with.

As for you not losing any sleep, that's twice in two posts you've felt the need to remind us of how un-seriously you take everything. In view of that, I find it incredibly difficult to take seriously any criticism from you.... especially given your tenacity once engaged on a topic. Methinks thou dost protest too much.

Quote:

Not really. Stick to the topics, and quit worrying about my behavior so much. That's why I advocate a return to set standards. Then I can stick to the topic. You'd have to give up making little comments like your one about anger management and actually stick to the debate then, though.

I'll be very interested to see how many more times you need to remind us it's just your opinion, you aren't taking this seriously, you aren't losing sleep, etc. and just how persistently you respond.

This place, by the way, isn't all that different from EVE - there's no rules, and a whole bunch of people trying to take advantage of that and blame all the problems on anyone else. There's a difference though - EVE costs me $10.95 a month (on the 12 month at a time plan) to play.. this place is free. Guess which one I take seriously?

Some of the topics I take seriously. You've seen some of the stuff I've written on defense matters. The thing is, I take the topic seriously regardless of whether it's here or elsewhere.

The board, no. There's nothing here to take seriously. At one time there was, but it's long gone now. At this point it's just a matter of wondering what people will say next.

You're not a victim. You can stick to any higher standard you like.

Don't get me wrong, I take treating others with respect and civility very seriously. It's one of the few things I do. I can get riled up very quickly (obviously) when people act like douchebags. What I don't take seriously is that saying anything about it will result in anything new. At this point, most of the active members, including myself, are pretty much one-dimensional characters that say the same things over and over again. I wouldn't be surprised if someone could find a near exact replica of this thread somewhere else on the board.

We need new blood, or at least new topics.
