As an employee, which would you prefer?
A 5% across-the-board pay cut for all employees, including you 57%  57%  [ 13 ]
A 5% reduction in force (i.e. layoffs), probably not including you 43%  43%  [ 10 ]

Sounds like I need to develop my own business management strategy and give it a marginally-related mathematical term for a name to impress **** business majors who don't know any better. I wonder how quickly I could market Root-Mean-Square? Perhaps Two Pi would sell better, since it's got a Greek letter in it...

LOL, that's **** up.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm currently trying to get my Super Duper Management Certification. I hear it looks great on a resume.

Just saw this poll, and being a business owner, I don't like either option. If it came down to it I'd have to lean towards the pay cuts, It's just hard to reward years of service like that but it's better then the other option.

The basics of Six Sigma apply to everything and if you aren't already monitoring your deliverables by quantifiable metrics and constantly adjusting your process - it will teach you that you should. I also don't know why anyone outside of manufacturing would take anything more than some of the lean programs.

A few months ago we had layoffs that consisted of about 4%. I didn't get hit and honestly I wasn't worried about it until I heard some of the names. There is a lot of dead weight where I work. Some people that you wonder how they have jobs. I thought they would all be gone. Instead they are still there, and some good people were let go. One guy I could kind of understand, as he always told the truth and always spoke his mind. At an all-hands meeting, when they asked for suggestions on improving the project performance, stood up and said that there were too many managers and they needed to walk half of them out.

Anyway, my point is that many quality people were laid off, while some complete idiots were kept. So generally I'd say layoffs rather than paycuts, but I don't know if I can trust management to get rid of the right people.
