How do you think a pre-teen hack like her gets the starring role in a Disney TV show?

Daddy gets it for her.

If you think Billy Ray has that much pull, you're nuts. He wasn't that good when he was popular.

Her acting is on par for a Disney show. Her voice is not bad at all.

Why? He made a shit-ton of money and still has what's considered one of the "best" country songs of the 90's (by best I mean most iconic). Having money and connections means you can get things together for your kids.

Kind of like how Drew Barrymore, George Clooney, Liv Tyler, and many others were introduced to Hollywood.

My comments on the kids Choice Awards and the inappropriateness of the Wal Mart ad still stand.

There is no doubt that Disney sexualizes children to try to create more demand for their product.

Heh, yeah, he ain't on her show for his acting ability, ya know?!

And yes, I've watched it. Thankfully, my 8-year old is done with her.

Yeah, but I think they wait until they're almost legal. Or, maybe Tennessee-legal, I dunno.

Perez Hilton had an interview on CNN discussing this issue.

I find the whole incident almost fascinating, since I generally fall on the "Miley is no naive innocent here" side in this incident but have nothing more than revulsion for paparazzi in general. It's almost like everything Perez says is just passing it off as "all in a day's work, nothing new to see here"... and he's right, IMO. And not that I have any like for this Joy Behar either, but she keeps coming across as "...ok but that's despicable!" and she, too, is right IMO.

It's probably a good fit for Hellfire if you come away from this discussion wanting to "see something done" about it. :p

I think this specific issue is little more than just another case of paparazzi being paparazzi. It may bring up all sorts of outrage against paparazzi, and rightfully so, but it shouldn't be about Miley I don't think. This seems pretty silly indeed compared to that High School Musical girl a year or whatever ago.

You can do a little digging and find a lot of videos of what the paparazzi are really like in action. The images in the tabloids or, more currently, blog posts are the end result... but it's their practices more than any of their end products that really make them repulsive to me.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about this incident beyond what I've read in this thread and now from the CNN interview. I know a little bit of Perez Hilton but not very much. I don't know what to believe when it comes to likelihood of people lying or whatever, so I'm not going to take one article somewhere and take it all on faith as fact. My post was made to a) include the interview and b) comment on how I'd say this is more a big picture paparazzi issue than anything.

Not according to the current child pornography laws. His offense of "faking" the pictures is just as great as if they had been real due to the addition in (2002?) of the digital modification clauses. (Did I word that properly?)

Personally, I would say this makes him more culpable, not less.

Same here. I was in the "It's her own fault" camp up to that point. It's still her own fault for getting a picture of her underwear taken. Him photoshopping it in pretty much makes him guilty of creating child porn IMO, and I'd say slander as well.

based on that video.... isn't there something that can be done, legally due to that suit he was wearing. OMFG! it made my eyes bleed.

I've always found it amusing he sees himself as an authority on the fashions others wear.

Not knowing him at all prior to this, and looking at the suit he is wearing for the interview just makes me shudder. That suit is very unflattering to him and is ugly all by itself.

:P
