It will save me a whole $-40 a month!

For worse coverage.

And no dental.

I guess its not for me.

So.. my friend relayed his experience with Obamacare on Facebook. As background, he contracts for the Federal government (military, I think?) on IT security.

[2:18:40 pm]: Thanks for contacting Health Insurance Marketplace Live Chat. Please wait while we connect you to someone who can help.
[3:05:07 pm]: Please be patient while we're helping other people.
[3:05:07 pm]: Welcome! You're now connected to Health Insurance Marketplace Live Chat. Thanks for contacting us. My name is Agent. To protect your privacy, please don't provide any personal information, like Social Security Number, or any other sensitive medical or personal information.

In order to better assist you today; what state will you be looking for information about health insurance?
[3:06:26 pm]: Customer
My computer is saying that your security certificate is not from a trusted authority, additionally, I'm unable to create an account because when I select the drop down boxes for the security questions, they are blank.
[3:06:50 pm]: Agent
Thanks for your interest in the Health Insurance Marketplace. We have a lot of visitors trying to use our website right now. That is causing some glitches for some people trying to create accounts or log in. Keep trying and thanks for your patience. You might have better success during off-peak hours, like later at night or early in the morning. We’ll continue working to improve the site so you can get covered.
[3:08:05 pm]: Customer
that doesn't address the problems with the security certificate that was chosen by the health exchange contractor
[3:09:21 pm]: Agent
I apologize for the inconvenience.
[3:09:47 pm]: Agent
We aware that you might have some technical difficulties on Heathcare.gov.
[3:10:13 pm]: Agent
Remember, the plan that you enroll today will not take into effective until Janurary 1, 2104 . I know this is not an excuse, but I am really sorry that you are having this much trouble on the website.
[3:12:14 pm]: Customer
I don't think I'm being clear, I'm not just having problems with the website itself; you have underlying security problems with the website as the security certificate that you are using isn't from a trusted source. This leads to a high risk of identiy theft and needs to be addressed immediately
[3:13:41 pm]: Agent
Thank you sir. I will write feedback for your issue. However, Heatlhcare.gov is a secure certificate website.
[3:14:45 pm]: Customer
Is there an e-mail address that I can send a screenshot of the error to for your record?
[3:19:27 pm]: Agent
We do not have an email option. I apologize. I believe you and will definitely forward this issue to my supervisor.
[3:19:46 pm]: Sorry, Health Insurance Marketplace Live Chat isn't available right now. We're having technical problems. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again later, or call our Customer Service Center at 1-800-318-2596. We look forward to helping you.

Hilarious. This is one, of many, many, many problems showing up today. Reason is, I think, having tons of fun reporting on them.

I've been getting certificate issues for years when accessing military websites from home. It's like the government has certificate-impairment syndrome or something.

The difference, of course, is that I'm not being asked to enter my SS number into military websites from home.

That's probably because you're not in the military.

A military site isn't any different than a .com website, except they're probably not up to the industry standard for security or usefulness.

Not to rain on the poor-government-cybersecurity dogpile, but a self-published certificate isn't inherently less trustworthy than a CA issued certificate. It's just that you have to understand what's going on. I have a number of servers with self-published certificates, and that's fine. Of course, it helps that I trust me. However, we're 20 years into the Endless September, and it's obvious that people are still very bad at information security. The main problem is that those same people think that they're good and conscientious at information security.

No, it's not.

Still, its nice to know that the right (here, represented by Rynar) is willing to make up facts to oppose Obamacare.

There's plenty to complain about with it WITHOUT just randomly making crap up.

Sorry, 1-800 F1UCKYO

Well…if the number’s ‘1-800-318-2596’(no idea I have not looked it up and don’t really care), then it’s still ‘1-800-F_U-CKYO’. It is kind of amusing but I do agree that this is low on the list of Detrimental Obamacare Outcome Metrics.

edit: Hopwin beat me to it!

I typed it incorrectly, I did not "make something up". I also thought it was humorous, and rather ironic, as opposed to intentional, but whatever.

It's comforting to me, however, to find that after returning from my long hiatus, [ Message Redacted ] is still just as much of a reactionary dickhead as ever. Thanks for your consistency.

I saw this earlier. He's not making stuff up, more likely passing things on without verifying them first. This is hardly a "right' or "left" trait. However yes, lets stick to substance. There is plenty of stuff to deal with without resorting to fluff.
