Cleveland developing registry of LGBT businesses

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland is developing a business registry in time for the 2014 Gay Games that will list businesses owned by members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer (http://bit.ly/1ry2nqA) reports the city's Office of Equal Opportunity is developing the registry.

Members of the public wanting to do business with LGBT-owned enterprises will be able to find them through the registry. The equal opportunity office is collaborating on the registry with Plexus, Cleveland's LGBT chamber of commerce. The Gay Games set begin in the area on August 9 will continue for a week. Athletes will compete in sports including swimming and diving, track and field, wrestling and volleyball. More than 9,000 competitors from around the world are expected to attend with 20,000 guests, performers, spectators and volunteers.

:psyduck:

I'd be curious what the backlash would be if they created a registry of heterosexual business owners for the purpose of members of the public wanting to do business with heterosexual owned enterprises.

Therein lies the rub. Yes, it is discriminatory, both ways. The politically correct policers can only see one way with the selective blinders.

This is permissible when done by a private group, but should never bear. The stamp of government approval.

Imagine ordering a copy so you will know what businesses to avoid. That directory can work both ways.

This really isn't any different than the minority business enterprise registrations in many states.

I still haven't quite wrapped my head around how, from a business perspective, gays would be considered disadvantaged, but there's a strong push to include them in the MBE registries.

Victimhood is a whole package. You have to have the entire thing.

I don't have a problem with it. Private non-prof putting together a registry of private businesses is none of mine. I only request the same courtesy in exchange.

I guess not. still finding it hard to give a dang. It's it ironic, yes. It's a double standard, sure. It's hardly a surprise though.
