I haven't started a thread in Hellfire in a long time...

Apparently Rachel Dolezal, the head of the NAACP in Spokane has been identifying herself, and living as an African American for quite some time, despite the fact that she was born to white parents in Montana who say her heritage is Czech, Swedish, and German.

There are a ton of links and videos out there, so I'm not going to try to link any national stories. Here is one local story from her hometown, including interviews of her parents, who she hasn't spoken to in years.

I'm not offended like some people seem to be, but honestly it's kind of baffling to me why she would do this.

Reporters following up on the intial story contacted her at Eastern Washington University, where she is part-time professor in the "Africana Studies Program".

They asked her again if she was African American. This was her response.







I admit I laughed out loud a little at the last answer.

I heard someone on the radio compare her to Caitlyn Jenner and called her 'Trans-Black' or 'Trans-Race'.

God dammit. I was tired of hearing about Caitlyn Jenner before the name change.

I was disappointed, after reading the thread title, to see that she is not a ginger.

I'm pretty sure the reason to do it is simply credibility in the circles she frequents and a desire to be in the all-important 'victim' classification. Since "you have privilege" is the currently fashionable way to dismiss anyone you don't want to listen to, not having 'privilege' is an imperative.

The "trans-african" thing was pretty funny though.

Am I the only one laughing at the irony inherent in someone being forced out of a job entirely because of their race and the fact that absolutely nobody even dares to mention this?

I think almost everyone here is laughing at absolutely every aspect of this.

I don't see how this isn't a slam dunk hostile environment lawsuit. "I had to hide my race because I knew I'd be forced out if they found out I wasn't black." It's blatantly and obviously true.

If you're going to extend "African" to include, not just people born in Africa, but people of African descent, you end up including all of us. With "American" ultimately including everyone living on either of two continents, that makes all of us here African American. Except Suineko, the limey bastard.

And now you start to see the hypocrisy inherent in the liberal construct the Democratic party has built itself into. It's entrenched itself so firmly in the notion that racism is against minorities and measures like quotas and such are necessary to work to level the playing field against privileged minorities that it must not dare to stand up for clearcut cases of racism that happen the other direction.

So, yes. Everybody else here finds it hilarious (though tragic and injust for Dolezal, of course). Welcome to the party.

I might consider it "tragic and unjust" for her if she hadn't been blatantly lying in order to get some victim cred in the first place. You're not wrong about the left's hypocrisy, but in her particular case she'd be (somewhat) more sympathetic if she was trying to get into the NAACP and whatever else and being kept out for being honest about her background.

Of course, she could just decide to do something productive with her life instead of being part of the umbrage-taking industry. Like porn. She'd be contributing more to society as a porn star than being involved in this sort of "academia"

I get asked on surveys and **** all the time. I've never lied about it. I can imagine it coming up in normal conversation in the job she chose though. Y'know, as the president of Spokane's National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

So she was born disadvantaged, that doesn't mean she is somehow deserves all the benefits that being a black American provides! What an amazingly presumptuous sense of entitlement! You're right, nobody should be asking it. That precludes the existence of organizations like NAACP. However, since we're stuck with them and she WAS asked, the fact remains that she still lied. Therefore we get to point and laugh at the total idiots on both sides of the issue.
