I'd be more surprised if > 10% of people here used Reddit ever. |

Jasmy wrote: WTH is Reddit and why should I care? Reddit is "the front page of the Internet." If you see something has gone viral, it probably started it's journey to fame on Reddit. It's really the ultimate web forum, but saying that doesn't do it justice. |

I'm with Jasmy, although I know what it is. I've probably visited two pages or so there in my life. (One of which was the page on Deep Dream.) |

It's more of a massive web forum, like the glade x a billion. |

Reddit is good for lurking, not for participating in, due to its large size and the low maturity levels of the other members. |

Reddit as a whole has nothing to do with being social. People create and delete accounts just to make single comments. It is probably the largest news aggregate on the planet though. |

Reddit is bad, and anyone that posts there should feel bad. I did once or twice. I felt dirty afterwards. |

Reddit is one of the greatest online portals ever. Want to learn how to fly fish, write a novel, speed run games, DIY anything, keep up on astronomy or particle physics... The answer to all of those is Reddit. Inclusion of all the cool **** means a lot of not cool **** too, like an entire subreddit dedicated to furries, or videos of people dying. |

You're making me want to create a reddit account and end my lurking. |

You can get all that on YouTube. Polishing a turd doesn't make it less of a turd. |

The fact that you think YouTube would allow half of Reddit's content shows you really don't get it. |

Yes, it allows a bunch of idiotic assholes to say stupid ****. But that's the only way to ensure all the good stuff also is allowed to be said. Edit: I should also add, the level of information on Reddit is simply **** astounding. Part of the reason I lurk rather than post there, is because the threads and posts that interest me I have no way to meaningfully contribute to (other than asking an ELI5 question). When someone discusses medicine (as an example) there, the thread is not packed with meaningless political drivel from people arguing semantics. The contributors are actually Biologists, Doctors, Chemists, and other researchers. It can be hard to follow, but you learn more following that type of reddit thread than you will anywhere else. |

You seem to revert to this excuse with alarming frequency. Or let me put it another way - no amount of information can compensate for the profusion of fedora-wearing shitlords. Amazing as it may seem, you don't need to set up your interface and community systems in such a way as to facilitate the worst aspects of a community. Reddit is dominated but its horrible upvote-downvote system and appalling mess of ****. Freedom of speech doesn't even enter into it. |

Rather not get into a pedantic argument about content guidelines. I just disagree with your flat assertion that Reddit is bad. If you base that on the existence of up/down-votes and shitty commenters then YouTube is even worse. One great thing that has come from Reddit that I have yet to see replicated on YouTube is a live Ask-Me-Anything session. |

I don't know why you would even bother with YouTube comments when the videos stand on their own. Reddit is not just a matter of shitty commentators, it's that popular but bad opinions can simply downvote everything else out of existence. It doesn't even amalgamate anything in a readable format like the Glade does. |
