Only dummies think the trade relationship can be simplified down in that fashion. I don't see Iowa in any big rush to give up it's biofuel subsidies either, and I seem to recall a major issue being made of the fact that Ted Cruz dared be against them... and then won Iowa anyhow. Perhaps the average Iowan is not as much a slave to agricultural lobbies as either that caucus battle or this chart wants to imply.

Further simplified, is the message really "If we increase taxes on imports, companies who make and sell things in the U.S. will be helped, and companies who make or sell things outside the U.S. will be hindered"? 'Cause that seems pretty obvious without the whole emotional "think of the farmers" thing.

A tax on consumption, and average americans buy used cars. Rich pay, poor don't. Isn't that the liberal's egalitarian dream? Not that it's egalitarian, but I'm not responsible for someone's fantasy.
