She wins the Lie of the Year contest over at politifact.com. Well done, Sarah from Alaska. Well done.

It never ceases to amaze me at how much the left fears Sarah Palin. They are almost universally Palinophobes.

Oh noes! Sarah Palin! Think of the children!

*that* is the "Lie of the Year"?

They're just not trying hard enough.

I don't even understand how she is electable. More than likely she'll be makign a bid for office again. I don't understand why people like her or like to hate her... I'd hit it though.

Considering we've yet to see whether the government would actually set up boards to determine rationing of care, or "death panels," because we haven't seen the final incarnation of a healthcare overhaul Act, pretty sure you're not allowed to call it a lie. It could be entirely true.

I think it likely that if there were a single payer plan, then there would be a death panel. There certainly is a death panel in the U.K.'s health system.

Especially since the language that started the whole argument was quote on these very forums from the House of Representatives PDF on the bill ...

Well he's allowed to call it a lie, freedom of speech and all that. However calling it a lie could turn out to be 2014s lie of the year, we don't know yet.

The left continues to attack Palin because they want to be able to run against her, George Bush, and whatever other strawmen they can come up with in the next few elections. It's the strategy that worked in 2008; don't run against McCain any more than necessary, run against Bush. To the degree that they ran against Palin they simply screamed and shouted about how she was going to establish a theocracy in the U.S. (although some of her own comments were no help to her overall credibility).

They need to keep attacking her in the public eye to have that strawman ready for 2010 midterms. Otherwise they may have to actually face the candidates they're running against. It's also prep work for 2012.

I agree. It's curious that the left is so terrified of her. I don't think she'd be all that big a deal if they weren't so threatened by her.

Nor do I. I'd like to see her improving her knowledge on some of the issues, strengthening herself in areas where she is weaker. As it stands now, I have a "wait and see" attitude whether I'd vote for her.

Watching the left have an apoplexy over her is rewarding in its own right, though. :)

*edit* That said, I am more inclined to support her just because the left hates her so much. Anyone who can generate this much hatred from the leftists must have something going for her.

It's annoying, because their concentration on her itself makes her a valid candidate. I'd think people would see that she left the governership "because of the stress the attention was putting on her family, which comes first" which I could understand, but now she seems to be calling for the spotlight. She's just as vapid as every other candidate and it is obvious now she was leaving her job so she could write her book and position herself in a more politically favorable position. It is disgusting.

As I understand it, she left for two reasons:
1) The continuous lawsuits were eating away at her hours as governor because she had to defend herself in court. She says she wouldn't have been able to get much done, whereas her lieutenant governor had the same values and wasn't being attacked. (I still see this as giving up.)
2) The legal fees she was racking up for all the ridiculous lawsuits were all out of pocket. She's not rich, unlike a lot of politicians, so it was starting to break them. (I'm a bit more accepting of this reason.)

Considering all the crap she took, I don't blame her for trying to capitalize on her recent fame if it helps her recoup some of the money she lost. Would I vote for her? I'm still not entirely convinced she has the right values. She seemed much more like a Conservative who just had the talking points pretty well memorized. I haven't looked too deep into her politics though and I honestly don't care enough to at this point.

I think the reason they fear her is because she is a woman with religious conviction who does not support abortion. The fact that there is a woman who does not agree with the liberal platform scares the crap out of them.

They are afraid that it may be catchy and other women will realize that she may not be wrong on staying by her convictions and not buckling to the oppressed woman line.

It's because she's an attractive woman with religious conviction that does not support abortion. She might actually have to deal with a surprise pregnancy sometime in the future, unlike the majority of pro-life women.

Um, she already did, indirectly - her daughter's pregnancy.

And are you saying that most pro-life women are unattractive?

You're seriously arguing that there's some correlation between being pro-life and being attractive?

If anything, how could you argue that pro-life women are generally unattractive by correlation?

If they unattractive, doesn't that likely correlate to less sex and therefore proportionally reduces the chance they become pregnant?

There's some seriously flawed reading going on in this thread. That's really all I have to say about it.
