Quote:
In 1983, President Ronald Reagan issued an Executive Order which gave permission to the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) to operate within the boundaries of the United States. Reagan’s EO put INTERPOL under the same basic guidelines as the CIA, FBI, ATF and other Federal law enforcement agencies.

Interpol_logo

Two weeks ago, without any announcement, debate, discussion or inquiry from journalists charged with “speaking truth to power” President Obama issued an amendment to this EO. The amendment removed part of Reagan’s order that kept INTERPOL from having full diplomatic immunity while operating within the United States. In other words: Under Reagan and right up until two weeks ago, INTERPOL was authorized to operate within the USA but they did not have full diplomatic immunity and had to adhere to certain laws set forth for investigative agencies. Laws that prohibit authorities from violating our constitutionally protected rights.

This story has begun to make the rounds at some other blogs and web sites. Some scream about the on-set of the New World Order, some merely question the timing, motives and logic behind such a move while we are still fighting foreign wars and under threat of attack from Al Qaeda and other international terrorist bodies. I certainly don’t walk down the New World Order/One World Government path, I don’t look good in tin-foil hats… but, I do wonder why this move was made so quietly and why the White House Press Corps has not made any hay about it.

I also wonder why my friends on the left, who screamed from the rooftops about phone companies conducting analysis of phone calls made from the US to known over-seas terrorists, about members of the Saudi family being allowed to leave the country in the days following 9/11, about the EVILS of the Patriot Act and how it would lead to the stripping of basic civil rights to anyone checking out a book in a library. I wonder how they feel about the President granting permission to an international organization to operate within our borders under full diplomatic immunity.

One other tasty tidbit: Due to the amended language created by President Obama, INTERPOL is now, no longer subject to Freedom of Information Act Inquiries.

I wonder if during his vacation in Hawaii if one of the intrepid reporters could ask the President:

“Mr. President, is it true that due to your amendment to Executive Order 12425, INTERPOL may break into a home without a warrant, seize private property of a US citizen, hold a citizen for questioning without the right of legal representation and not be subject to any legal or criminal repercussion?”

I’d really like them to ask that question. Wouldn’t you?

So if true INTERPOL agents have diplomatic immunity, and freedom from inquiries. Hell this alone should swell the people preparing to shoot first. "sorry thought it was an INTERPOL agent"

Yeah this was discussed a bunch around the liberty circles. International cops that can't be prosecuted. There is more than one kind of justice at least.

I'm wondering what the quid pro quo on that is. Do our investigators get better access to Interpol files. Do we get a similar amount of freedom/immunity for some of our agents?

I just can't see any world-wise president signing that piece of stupidity.

Obama is a true one-world government proponent. In fact anyone in the CFR is. (This includes all of our last few Presidents).

Could it be that God is removing His hand of protection from this nation and is going to allow our enemies to destroy us?

Nah, that's crazy talk.

And this is why I have such a hard time taking the right seriously anymore. More and more, conservatives are continuing to delve deeper and deeper into paranoia and conspiracy mongering. Obama is for the New World Order! Obama wants to come get our guns! It's crap, and it's sad to see it touted here as if it is gospel truth. My guess is that this author is leaving out some key details here, if his story is even accurate at all. Hell, Breitbart recently sounded the alarms that Obama had been visited by the head of ACORN before the tapes came out, only it didn't actually happen. He had been visted by someone with the same first and last name, but not middle initial.

Conservative commentators, blogs, and columnists have been siezing on any theory about Obama, no matter how far fetched and insane, since the primaries. Be it a non existent whitey tape, a birth in Kenya, gay sex rumors, or this New World Order crap, there seems to be no story too insane for the right wing anymore in this country. Obama's presidency has driven them into an absolute frothing at the mouth frenzy.

Monty he just allowed foriegn investigators to ignore constitutional restrains on investigation, and you are fine with this? If Bush had done anything similar you would be the first one screaming about it, and I with you. Your hypocrisy is so overwhelming and obvious.

This may actually be a good thing. Some INTERPOL agent goes and does <insert something here>, gets arrested by local cops, is simply deported as persona non grata. Victim goes to court, case goes to Supreme Court, Executive order gets quashed.

They only have the limits that we impose upon them. I'm not going to trust somebody else's government to care a whit about my rights here in America. I don't elect them, they're not accountable to me. And now, neither are their cops.

Honestly, US citizens are least likely to be affected. The rules of evidence in US courts were not changed. If you are a US citizen, Interpol cannot arrest you. They must justify themselves to a US court and have the US authorities arrest you. If they used illegal methods to gather evidence it will be thrown out anyway, and they can't touch you. The people most likely to get nailed are non-US citizens living in the US. Interpol could use illegal techniques to gather evidence on them while they're in the US and then have them arrested when they traveled back to their home countries, which could potentially have court systems that would accept the illegally (from the perspective of the US) gathered evidence.

Anything that's ever been overturned because it violated someone's rights has had to involve such a violation in the first place. That's how the courts work.

As a side note, I wish we had an amendment that said if an EO or law or regulation found to be unconstitutional, the author, president who signed it, or regulatory department head would have some sort of consequence against them... like not being able to run again or something.

This executive order is a fantastic thing, if you ask me. It is a clear violation of the Oath of Office. Obama has ceded some part of domestic sovereignty to a foreign entity, and he has done so unilaterally. Too bad really, I had such high hopes for a guy who publicly dismissed the validity of the U.S. Constitution when running for office.

I believe he's talking about the issue of who and on what grounds the president's eligibility may be questioned (and no, not the eligibility itself).
