Rules:

Dont be an ***.

This is deliberately vague. Hellfire is a simulated real life forum where people are free to express themselves as they wish. Should you choose to be an arrogant prick that is up to you, you deal with the social consequences that brings. If you get really out of control, say spam posting or disrupting the whole forum, you're gone. Once again please make use of the "Foe" function if you want to be spared a certain posters tomfoolery. If that doesnt work, and I'm not sure why it wouldnt, then you can start to think about the report button.

In an effort to be more clear, some things that are not ok:

Spamming: i.e. creating multiple threads. Posting garbage in multiple threads for the purpose of being a dick
Graphic pictures (porn etc)
Advertising

Beyond that we're taking a hands off approach.

Call me a cynic, but this just looks like an excuse to not have to deal with somebody in Hellfire.

And it was a model that worked quite well for, well, years.

So will you be revoking Monte's ban early, then?

If you consider the unreadable cesspool that was boardzero "quite well," then yes. :)

::shrugs:: I've never personally had a problem with any of the Hellfire incarnations. I'm used to impassioned discussions, and if they seem to be getting too ugly and going nowhere, I quietly excuse myself. Afterall, if my point has been said several times already, what is the point of saying it again?

With that tactic, it's pretty hard to get bogged down.

To be fair, boardzero went down more than a high school prom date.

It should be permanent. He's been the common problem on every incarnation of this board since the first one. Every time we start a new board he gets a "second chance" as long as he plays nice, but of course he doesn't (or can't, I don't know). Then the atmosphere gets more and more toxic until finally whoever's moderating at the time gets fed up, bans him (and possibly whoever finally blows up at him). Things are fine for a while after that, then that incarnation of the Glade dies for whatever reason, we start a new one and the cycle starts up again...

It should be permanent if the criteria for such is fulfilled. If there are no fouls in Hellfire, then it certainly has not.

Make no mistake, I am no fan of Monte's methods of expression, but neither am I a fan of punishment in the absence of an offense.

The offense was committed before the rules got change, so there is no absence.

That would be why there is a difference between ex post facto and amnesty.

Yes. There is, however, no good reason for amnesty, however.

As for keeping him off the board, yes I want to keep him off the board. He's got nothing useful to say; it's just one endless stream of moral condemnation of everyone else here for disagreeing with him.

I don't care if he's allowed back with the caveat of staying out of Hellfire/Heckfire but inevitably he'll stick his nose in, and be polite and slowly creep back into his old habits, just like last time he was allowed back in Hellfire.

We asked for mods so that Hellfire could follow some semblance of rational debate.

We asked for mods because Monty has been making a nuisance of himself for years.

The mods don't want to moderate Hellfire.

The mods don't want to deal with Monty.

The solution is to let Hellfire go back to ****, just like it used to be, and make a new subforum that will receive heavy moderation.

Why should any of us believe that you'll actually do it?

The moderators are creating a new subforum specifically to avoid doing the job that we asked them to do, and that they assured us would be done. Why do we still have them?

Because we don't have a better waste of our employer's time.
