From a chopper, they apparently took the guy out in his car. Pretty impressive. They had been tracking him in the area for some time. GG.

We present for your edification, Monte. A rabid left wing zealot and shrill advocate for all things hippy. Having just posted a pro-US post on the message boards. A clever attempt at trolling or has he fallen and smacked his head on something hard? Only time will tell... time in The Hellfire Zone...

This post was reported. Consider this a verbal warning for flaming.

Oh, and when reporting folks, please use the correct "Report Reason." It only takes about 2 seconds and tells the mods the importance level.

Apparently not. However, I now know what level of humor, sarcasm, and wit to use as the gold standard when deciding if a post is reportable. I just hope that history remembers which side set the tone, here.

Also, publicly objecting to moderation is generally frowned upon by everywhere I've seen moderation. Take it to PMs, is my advice, if you wish to register complaints.

If that's going to be the rule in here. I'm out.

Srsly. If *that* was enough to earn a warning from whatever whiny little ***** reported me... I don't need to participate in Hellfire anymore.

Thanks, but no **** thanks.

Just like that? You're going to let the terrorists win?

As far as personal attacks go, if you're going to consider my post an attack... its pretty tame. My only consolation is that before long, the OP will have the banhammer down on him faster than Rosie O'Donnell on a cupcake shaped like a vagina.

Face it, there's no way he'll be able to keep up his newfound teacher's pet posting style, and its just a matter of time.

I'll be on the sidelines. Watching.

Roight, back OT then.

Its awesome that the US can do this kind of thing. I wish they'd do it more often, and on a wider base of terrorists.

Helicopters don't drop bombs. The article indicates that the helicopter "strafed" the car, killing 2, and then troops on board got off and took 2 other wounded men.

It also indicates that the helicopter took off from a French warship. A representative from JSOC indicated 2 americans were involved, but that's all. I think this was a joint effort between us, the French, and possibly some others as well.

Interesting. The article I read said it was an American special forces op. Which doesn't mean we didn't get help from the french. Pretty cool if we did, though. International cooperation is a good thing when dealing with these guys.

If you mean the article in the OP, the "French" part is at the very bottom where a witness says it was a French warship (easily identifiable by its flag).

When you're talking about any sort of SF operation, any official statement about who was involved is going to be given very carefully, if the operation is revealed at all. It may very well have been an "American" op in the sense that we researched the intel and planned it, even if we didn't provide the majority of the physical assets. Take any specifics of how it was conducted with a large grain of salt.

The article said that it was signed off on by the President, so I think it's safe to assume our assets were used.

Quote:
Two U.S. military officials said forces from the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command were involved. The officials gave no official details about the raid or its target.

So, we at least know that our forces were involved. The beginning of the article also claims the helicopters were ours. We can probably safely assume pilots and crew were American soldiers.

Authorization by the President has nothing to do with the logistics of how the operation was carried out. Obviously some of our assests were used, even if it was only 2 guys and their personal gear. That doesn't indicate that the majority of the assets used were ours.

Yes, we already knew our forces were involved. We can assume that the helicopters and crews were american, but we can also assume the ship was French. That's all fine as long as we remember these are assumptions. What I'm trying to get across here is that the operational details of things like this are often obscure or intentionally misleading to protect intelligence, tactics, capabilities, etc. from the enemy. Assumptions, even safe ones, are assumptions.
