large article can't get it to copy on my phone. So after a long campaign trail of lambasting McCain for his position on continental shelf drilling Obama announces a plan to do it anyway.

I want to believe this is a shift toward sanity for my President. However there is no evidence to support that at this time

I don't care about motive in this case. I've accepted long ago that politicians have political motives more often than not. I just applaud the decision for what it appears to be.

You're probably right. I am just concerned it will be couched in an otherwise despicible piece of legislation

Since this proposal actually decreases the number of leases on known oil fields, and replaces them with "exploration" in unknown areas, I'm going with Obama trying to wrangle support for cap and trade, or public support for "See, the Republicans won't even compromise after I've offered them coastal drilling!"

Yeah. Obama is working on building a fairly transparant strawman to attack, and the average voter isn't bright enough to understand that. He's attempting to manipulate the obstructionist lable.
