http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/ ... 11788.aspx Quote: From NBC's Mark Murray Here's the first set of numbers we're releasing from our new NBC/WSJ poll, which comes out in full beginning at 6:30 pm ET: According to the poll, more than 80% see problems with America's two-party system -- with 31% believing it's seriously broken and that America needs a third party, and with another 52% saying that it has real problems but that it can still work with some improvements. Only 15% of Americans believe the two-party system works fairly well. The poll was taken May 6-10, and these numbers have a margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points. Not sure why but I lolled. |

What we need are two opposite parties instead of two parties who are essentially brothers fighting over who gets to be in charge of a bigger government. |

The ideal number of political parties is zero, failing that, the next best number is infinite. |

We really should go back to the old tradition of having politicians stand for election instead of running for election. That it, you announce your candidacy and positions, and other people whose interests are aligned campaign for you, instead of you campaigning for yourself. |

The problem is, that 1/3 won't agree that it should be X party. Not only that, but a third party will likely destroy one of the other two, not cut both down equally. So we'll probably need a minimum of 2 new parties. I prefer 433 new parties, myself. |

I despise partisan politics, personally. Too many agendas. Too many secrets . . . |

A third party would make gerrymandering excessively complicated. |
