Washington (CNN) -- So much for political kingmakers and the machine, at least in Kentucky and Pennsylvania. National and statewide political officials and operatives watched their chosen candidates fall Tuesday in two separate primaries with two different narratives weaved together by the common thread of anti-establishment.

Republican-turned-Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania saw his 30-year career in the Senate come to an abrupt end at the hands of Rep. Joe Sestak despite being endorsed by President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and just about every big-name Democrat.

In Kentucky, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell failed in his attempt to crown Secretary of State Trey Grayson the GOP Senate nominee in the race to succeed retiring Sen. Jim Bunning. Grayson lost in a landslide to Rand Paul, whose campaign was fueled by Tea Party activists.

Meanwhile in Arkansas, Sen. Blanche Lincoln failed to beat back a challenge from the liberal wing of the Democratic Party and will face Lt. Gov. Bill Halter again in a primary runoff. Round two takes place June 8.

These three races all have unique storylines with their own set of actors, subplots and circumstances. Yet each political contest shares the overarching themes of anti-Washington and anti-establishment exacerbated by a sluggish economy and high unemployment rate.


This may surprise some of you, but I actually think this is a good thing. We need some new blood in Washington, and in my own State government too.

Yeah, I'm loving this. Finally the nation is done with Specter and I loved the people giving the Republican Party the finger with Rand Paul's win. I'm soooooooo hoping we can get McCain out too. That cranky old bastard's gotta go.

Sorrry to hear about that Elmo. However I am glad for other races and the poetry that Specter got primaried anyway.

We didn't have a primary for our senate seat at least on the R side. I was somewhat disappointed.

Somebody should have stood up against Boehner hard, because he's absolutely weak on the leadership front. "You failed to stop the Democrats. You failed to stop the stimulus. You failed to stop Healthcare. You failed to stop cap and tax. You voted for TARP. You helped run up massive debts in the last decade, and ultimately you simply don't have the will to lead. You're too worried about what's best for John Boehner, and not worried enough about what's best for America."

And in his district (DFK! and mine), it's Bay-ner. On his commercials, talking to his staff and campaign organizers, and on the news. =P

I'm actually really happy to hear about Rand. From the couple interviews I've seen, I think I like him more than his dad.

My dream world.
Oddly enough I've always thought a politician hunting season was good idea every you apply for a tag and license, if your drawn your allowed to shoot 1 politician in your tag class. Tags would be very limited though, no more than 25% of the house per election term, 20% of the senate per election term and 1 executive per term.

I guess it pretty telling that I've thought of this concept a long time a go

That's a good idea. You don't want to over-harvest, and dwindle the population. Another way to keep population in check, if you don't like the hunting idea, is to reintroduce natural predators into the environment.

A couple of polar bears roaming the halls of the Capitol Building might do the trick.

I had a Turkish math teacher named Akin-Boehner and everyone defintely called her Achin' Boner. Ironically, that is exactly what DC has become - an uncomfortable, awkward errection that has overstayed it's welcome and is in desperate need of a long overdue ejaculation to flush all the pain away.

In the spirit of this analogy, I forsee at least another decade of snorting lines of Cialis while continuing to watch porn designed to appeal to senior citizens.
