http://www2.timesdispatch.com/rtd/news/ ... 87987/P10/ Aug 24, 2009 Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home just outsideTabor City, N.C. about 5 p.m. Sunday, the prosecutor for the politician's home county said. The victim, Kyle Blackburn, was taken to a South Carolina hospital, but the injuries were not reported to be life-threatening, according to Rex Gore, district attorney for Columbus, Bladen and Brunswick counties. The State Bureau of Investigation and Columbus County Sheriff's Department are investigating the shooting, Gore said. Soles, who was not arrested,=2 0declined to discuss t he incident Sunday evening. "I am not in a position to talk to you," Soles said by telephone. "I'm right in the middle of an investigation." Soles, a top-ranking Democrat and the longest-serving member of the legislature, already was the subject of an SBI investigation over sexual misconduct allegations with former male clients. (FHW - Now, that sounds more like a liberal to me). The Senator, who has made a career of being against gun ownership for the general public, didn't hesitate to defend himself with his own gun when he believed he was in immediate danger and he was the victim. In typical hypocritical liberal fashion, the "Do As I Say And Not As I Do" Anti-Gun Activist Lawmaker picked up his gun and took action in what apparently was a self-defense shooting. Why hypocritical you may ask? It is because his long legislative record shows that the actions that he took to protect his family, his own response to a dangerous life threatening situation, are actions that he feels ordinary citizens should not have if they were faced with an identical situation. It has prompted some to ask if the Senator believes his life and personal safety is more valuable than yours or mine. But, this is to be expected from those who believe they can run our lives, raise our kids, and protect our families better than we can. |

His neighbors better be thankful they didn't get hit with a wildly reckless stray bullet. Or even more severely, he better be thankful he didn't get hit with an ultimately lethal ricochet. |

Why do they refer to him as a victim? He wasn't a victim. He was a bad guy who invaded a home and is lucky he isn't dead. That doesn't make you a victim though. |

Elmo, what are you quoting? I'm completely confused by your post. You link an article. Then you post what appears to be reporter-speak, what with the date displayed, and such -- but it's not anything like what the linked article says... What of that is the article? What, if any, is your editorialization? Where did the stuff that's neither come from? I was going to point out that the "(FHW - Now, that sounds more like a liberal to me)" bit was just being petty and poking the usual suspects with a stick, but I figured I'd check the link to make sure it was you and not some really unprofessional reporter you were quoting. And now, I clicked the link and have no idea what's going on. |

Ya know I don't know now. I didn't write it but you're right its nothing like what the article looks like now. That is really odd that they didn't mention it had been updated or anything. |

Timmit: After the bullet leaves the barrel, you are no longer in control. Are you trying to say fatal ricochets don't happen? |

The article reads like this when I clicked on the link and got this:: http://www2.timesdispatch.com/rtd/news/ ... 87987/P10/ Quote: By AP Published: August 24, 2009 TABOR CITY, N.C. — A sheriff says a North Carolina state senator shot one of two intruders at his home and hospital officials say the man is in fair condition. Multiple media outlets reported that Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten said that 74-year-old Sen. R.C. Soles of Tabor City shot Kyle Blackburn late Sunday afternoon. A spokeswoman at Loris Community Hospital in South Carolina said Monday that Blackburn was in fair condition. Batten says the shooting occurred when two men went to the senator’s house and tried to kick in his front door. No charges have been filed. The sheriff’s office said the State Bureau of Investigation was handling the case. A call to an agency spokeswoman was not immediately returned. There was no answer at a number listed for Soles’ home. The Democrat has been in the Senate 32 years. No mention of him being anti-gun, of any sexual misconduct or anything like that. |

What's more DE, that article makes it sound like he shot them on the porch, not inside the home... they were trying to kick in his door. |

Elmo's link apparently said what he's quoted at one point. There's enough quotes of the same text as Elmo supplied not to believe otherwise. |

Must be that crazy liberal media again. /tease I did a couple of google searches on Soles and gun control and found conflicting info on if he's pro or anti gun control. YMMV |

YMMV Actually, that first version of the article Elmo posted sounded like a combination of conservative bias and incompetance. I think we should put this matter in the "too much confusion to get anything out of it" column and move on. |

Yeah, this is bizarre: http://www.google.com/search?q="Long+time+Anti-Gun+Advocate+State+Senator+R.C.+Soles,+74" This turns up a lot of other sources quoting that same text and linking to the same article. Even weirder, google's cache of the article shows the current text, too. /tinfoil |

Maybe that version wasn't actually supposed to make it on the internet...maybe it was meant as an email with commentary or something and someone accidentally put it online...then they thought they corrected their mistake before anyone noticed. |

Not that it is your fault, since the written medium doesn't convey it well. I know the in-joke Vindi is referencing. You may have missed that gem of a thread on 3.0. |

There is nothing funny or light-hearted about a ricocheting bullet flying about out of control, wreaking untold havoc and carnage. Have you not seen what Chain Lightning can do when it scores a crit? |

It may be a house rule. Normally, though, you can only crit with a spell that requires an attack roll. |
