Democratic success! They can move to pass 2000 page financial regulatory bills, which one of the co-authors is actually on the record saying "No one will know until this is actually in place how it works." In public! To Press!

And it goes largely unnoticed, as they plan to vote on it and have it signed into law in a week? /facepalm

It's an interesting attack on the bill, and one that was used on Health care as well. Sadly, it's pretty much true of *any* law ever passed. You don't actually know what will happen in practice until the law is implemented, challenged, dealt with by the courts, etc.

It's a bit like an adjustment to an MMO's systems. Once it gets out into the wild, and the players get their hands on it, you might find something unexpected.

No ****. However, you should at least be able to make a prediction as to what you think is going to happen. Passing 2000 pages of bullshit with no idea what the effects are going to be is stupid.

Just because there are unintended consequences does not mean you can't or shouldn't try to figure out any of the consequnces beforehand. If you can't, how the **** do you know what law to pass?

Your failure to see eye-to-eye is that you seem to think there should be ONE standard.

The bill is 2000 pages, of course nobody but the people who actually wrote it comprehend it. That's pretty much the strategy of the people who write the bills. Nobody can reasonably comprehend a 2000 page bill, especially as complex as the wording usually is. It would take weeks dedicated to nothing but reading it. The health care bill was 8000 pages which would take months.

This is only true if you believe law is an interpretive exercise. The only "sadly" unfortunate thing about this bill is the ease with which it will facilitate future financial crises and eliminate any sort of real economic mobility in the United States.

And this wouldn't be true if lawmakers were interested in making law that was clear, concise, readable, and Constitutional. Instead, they continually offer up political dickery as a legitimate substitution for the Rule of Law.

Except, "the People" aren't beta testers.

Unless you're Google, then you can get away with it, Khross. But the USSA (Beta) doesn't have the same ring to it as 5 years of Gmail (Beta)...
