An Essay on Ender's Game http://www4.ncsu.edu/~tenshi/Killer_000.htm Creating the Innocent Killer: Ender's Game, Intention, and Morality by John Kessel Not a bad read I thought. |

TL;DR version? Ender is not Hitler, and should not be seen as an allegory for him. But, there is more than *solely* intent in morality, as OSC would argue against. |

I guess I never thought about it that way. Silly me I just thought it was a fiction book for enjoyment. |

Interesting. All dictators believed they were right in their actions. They believed their own values over anyone else's... it's a dangerous line of thought but necessary for charismatically holding power. |

Morality is defined by people. Some people choose to be actors (defining their own morality). Most people choose to be reactors (using others' morality). Being an actor gets more things done. However, it can be like walking into a chicken's nest if you aren't careful. |

Chickens nest? Are you sure that is what you wanted to say Lex? I think that has been linked here before. I could be wrong. I know I have read it before. This is one of the things I hate. Why can't you just read a story and enjoy it. Why must you pick it apart and try to see some kind of message behind the tale? Anyone ever think that maybe the only desire a person has in getting a book published is to get paid? |

Timmit wrote: Imperi wrote: Meant chicken's pen. Hehe Coop. Chickens live in a coop. I think you meant hornets' nest. That could hurt. Walking into a chicken coop/next/pen would just get you covered in chicken poop. Come to think of it, I did get popped in the eye once when I was picking eggs down in Arkansas, but it didn't have the same level of danger as walking into a hornets' nest. |
