What is the mood for the new states income tax proposal?

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... on_LEADTop

Going from one of the lowest state income tax to front of the pack in one fell swoop. I am sure Texas and Florida will be thankful for the additional millionaires.

If that passes I foresee bad economic times for the state moving forward.

Why on Earth would someone who would be hit by the full brunt of the proposed tax, due to the income bracket they are in, support its inception?

Because they can vote themselves a raise to cover the loss.

I'm not sure of the states mood per se regarding 1078, but I know that I can't vote 'No' soon enough. I won't be shocked if a majority of WA state voters are foolish enough to vote for this, thinking they're 'stickin' it to the rich for the children' or maybe FOR THE SAKE OF THE FOREST CREATURES!

I'm sure its being sold that it taxes the rich for earnings, while lowering everyone property taxes and business taxes.

Exactly.

Also, I suspect the TV spots mention of "some folks say initiative 1098 is about soaking the rich" is an attempt reverse psychology aimed at those of proliteriat mindset. Even though they go on to say how it's not so (the bit about soaking the rich); no it's really about the future! And it will all go to help fund education (for the children!). And rainbows and puppies.

Right.

I have no doubt it will pass (i'm very pessimistic about these things).

They are touting as 'Income Tax for the Rich', which makes it sound palatable for the majority of voters. The problem is that this opens the door for legislature to extend the income tax to whomever they choose without voter approval in the future, and they will do exactly that, I have no doubt.

If you live there and don't like it become an activist.
