http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Fla-offic ... 5.html?x=0 Quote: WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (AP) -- Florida sheriff's deputies have arrested a Colorado man who wrote a guide for pedophiles on obscenity charges.
Polk County deputies arrested Phillip Ray Greaves II at his home in Pueblo, Colo., early Monday on a warrant out of Florida. Polk Sheriff Grady Judd says his office was able to arrest Greaves on Florida obscenity charges because Greaves sold and mailed his book, "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: a Child-lover's Code of Conduct," to Polk deputies. Judd says Greaves even signed the book. The self-published book offered advice to pedophiles on how to make sexual encounters with children as safe as possible. It was briefly for sale on Amazon, but the website later removed it. |

His lawyer should try to get the arrest thrown out. It's a bit of a stretch for me to say I wish him well though. |

This is one of those cases where I hope the government loses, but this defendant gets fatally raped by a gigantic mutant porcupine the moment he gets out of the courthouse. |

This just makes me hate him more. Because now I find myself in the position of having to defend him. |

Florida has a law that covers this. He was arrested for breaking that law. Is that not the case here? |

Only because it seemed to me that Corolinth's "F*** the Police" video link was uncalled for, that's all. Should have linked a "F*** the legislators" video, but it is just cooler to hate the police around here I guess. |

another question... who the **** is Floraida to arrest a man who was not even in their state? He is in Colorado... but because his book is against Florida laws, they went out to Colorado to have him arrested. |

Oh, there's plenty of hate to go around, I'm sure you've noticed. darksiege wrote: another question... who the **** is Floraida to arrest a man who was not even in their state? While I find the material in question offensive, the law making it criminal is also offensive, but the law allowing the authorities of one state to arrest a person in another state (with the resident-state's permission) for crimes committed in the non-resident state is legitimate. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but then didn't the Deputies of Florida have to buy the item from Greaves? So are they to be arrested on a related charge? If they are playing "gotcha" with this guy, isn't there the buyers part of the crime yet to be charged? |

I am not that familiar with Florida obscenity law. It could be the case that it is illegal to traffic "obscene" items, but not to possess them, as it is in multiple jurisdictions. However, are you holding your breath for the time that all the undercover narcs will be arrested for their part in drug stings? |

What do drug stings have to do with this? I'm stating that the crime may not have occured if the police in florida didn't order the item. It's not that the guy just mailed them a free book, I believe that they ordered the product. Course the guy is done regardless. He's going to get a shite public defender and has already been presumed guilty. |

Obscenity has never been protected by the first amendment, that's why you can't say **** in prime time. This being purely at a state level means this guy has even less of a leg to stand on. |

Judges did. Judges that should have been killed on the spot. |

Or voted out. That also works and is a non-violent solution to a non-violent problem... |

I don't know that the punishment fits the crime. Also, I didn't realize you advocated the death penalty? I guess in Elmostan it's okay if "your" government kills people. |
