So in issue 900 Superman is going to the UN and renounce his American Citizenship, supposedly so his actions do not effect US foreign policy....

So? Fictional characters can do whatever they want, don't see why it's controversial.

Pointless and counter productive character change based on bad reasoning. Makes as much sense as Spider mans "One more day" plot arch

I'm not a follower of the comics, but isn't there like a dozen different storylines going on for the main cash cows at any one time? So, while in this story Superman is renouncing his citizenship, isn't he ... oh, saving Poughkeepsie for instance ... in another?

No this seems to be the main story arch. Oddly following one called "Grounded" where he walked across the US to re connect with the citizens...guess that failed.

Not addressed is if Clark Kent will be renouncing his citizenship, or will Superman actually do something deceitful and keep it.

Who cares? This thread is so stupid I'm surprised I didn't see it on FOX News first.

This is almost as controversial as that time when Spiderman jumped from building to building without getting permission from either the owners or the city.

If we have to take stupidity into account for thread creation, you need to get to work cleaning up the historical threads.

Ironically, I did (yesterday). I thought about posting it, but got distracted. :D

I don't think it's a stupid thread. Supes is an iconic figure, and if a significant element of his traditional character/image is being changed, that's a worthwhile discussion point among comic fans (which, presumably, most of us here either are or were). Personally, I like the idea of a storyline exploring the consequences of Superman getting involved in "real-world" geo-political events, and I could see why he might think disassociating himself from the U.S. government might be a reasonable thing to do. On the other hand, it could turn out to be a sappy, "We are the world" moment. It all depends how it's handled by the writers.

I've never read a Superman comic (or any other comic). I liked the semi-recent movie that came out though. I didn't know my username came from Superman until months later when people kept referencing it. I just liked how it looks.

Who cares about DC Comics? Or Superman. Or hasn't this type of super hero/vs realisim sory been done like a lot by now. It's not even fresh.

WTF is SM going to do that affects US foreign policy anyway? Also, comic writers should stop kidding themselves that they don't write stories for youbg adults and they should probably stay away from heavy handed allegory.
