BREAKING: White House releases Obama's birth certificate
By: CNN Political Unit
(CNN) – The White House released President Obama's original birth certificate Wednesday.

The surprise release follows recent and sustained remarks by businessman Donald Trump, among others, that raised doubts as to whether the president was born in the United States.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Trump said, "I have accomplished something nobody else has accomplished."

"I want to look at it, but I hope it’s true," he added. "He should have done it a long time ago. I am really honored to have played such a big role in hopefully getting rid of this issue."

Earlier Wednesday, White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said the debate has been "really bad for the Republican Party."

The so-called "birther" debate is "good politics" but "bad for the country," said Pfeiffer.

White House spokesman Jay Carney is expected to speak more about the birth certificate Wednesday morning.

In an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper Monday, Trump repeated his doubts and said he had been told the certificate was "missing."

A new CNN investigation revealed earlier this week what most analysts have been saying since the "birther" controversy erupted during the 2008 presidential campaign: Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961.

While the president has made light of the controversy, the question remained political red meat for some of his critics. A recent CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll showed that nearly 75% of Americans believe Obama was definitely or probably born in the United States. More than four in 10 Republicans, however, believe he probably or definitely was not born in America.

The U.S. Constitution says only "natural born" citizens can become president - a vague clause that some members of the birther movement contend disqualifies Obama because, they insist, he was born outside the United States.

Skeptics contend, among other things, that Obama was born in his father's home country of Kenya.

I am sure this still won't settle the debate but any gripes after this will surely be chalked up to racism. I still don't get why they took so long to release it.

The only reason this was ever an issue, is that he didn't do this 3 years ago. And why he didn't is sort of baffling.

Again, I don't think the majority of sane people cared about the issue until the President's lawyers spent untold amounts of money denying standing to every interested party in the nation.

And now, since no one has standing to challenge a candidate's constitutional eligibility, it's simply politically expedient to provide a photocopy of the hard bound long form.

The only questions that remain are ...

1. Why spend so much effort denying standing if proof was so easy to obtain?

2. Why petition for an injunction against discovery in the one Federal case that granted it?

3. Why lie and say the document did not exist?

The argument, at least for me, has never been about where he was born but what he had to gain by going through such legally and politically inefficient maneuvers to obfuscate the matter for so long.

This. To me it is along the lines of catching your significant other in a lie about something you didn't care about. You don't really care so much about the truth as you do about why they lied.

Well, it's simple. Now, nobody can challenge standing, paving the way for Huge Chavez to run in 2016.

I think it's clear why he did it all along. He did it so he could disparage an entire side that disagreed with him, specifically Republicans, conservatives, libertarians, etc. and call them right-wing fringe nutjobs. It worked unfortunately. Everyone who ever doubted the validity of the document was called a "birther" and deemed a nut. Since the issue isn't playing well for him anymore and Trump is showing some power, he releases it. This will also make Trump look good, giving him more credibility to run, which is exactly what Obama and his camp wants.

So, I went and dug up a few stories on this just to see if I could find an image ...

I fear this may make matters worse.

Yes, it will only serve to make matters worse. Look at it closely, and you will figure out why ...

1. His mother signed it 3 days after the listed date of birth.

2. The Attendant Physician signed it 4 days after the listed date of birth.

3. There's no allowance for the Father's signature. Most states require both in the case of married couples.

4. It's not notarized.

I'll leave it to you to figure out which of those things is the most important.

Were any of those things a problem in Hawai'i in 1961, though? Just because "most states" required it, doesn't mean all do, or did then. Is this any different from the other CoLB from around the same time, and from the same hospital? We don't know, since we only have the one document to go off of.

I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to go with "Hawai'i says it's valid, so it's valid."

I'm going to present some evidence from the biggest tinfoil hat site on the internet:

Some lady posted her Hawaiiain CoLB (birthdate 1 day after Obama and in the same exact hospital he was born in):

It has the same "issues" outlined by Khross above so it appears Obama's matches the standard from the time.

You lack the standing to challenge her eligiblity for the presidency.

The paperwork for a signed birth certificate normally isn't signed immediatly. Doctors frequently go from one delivery to the next and I assure you signing forms is hardly the first thing on anyone's mind.

Example: A doctor 'on call' might have as many as 3-4 (or more) women in labor at any given time. A doctor on a call rotation might deliver several babies, go back home and then not be in the office for several more days--they're hardly going to wait around for a typist/nurse to type out the documentation.

I don't even think they're actually notarized by a notary public. (usually just stamped IIRC--I'll have to go back and check mine--granted mine is 14 years later than this and different state)

The mothers are NOT necessarily asked to sign paperwork immediatly thereafter either. (again, if it had to be typed it could have been several days before it was)

Wow, you guys apparently are so busy looking for some way to bash someone, you managed not to read what was posted. So, let me explain this for the cognitively disabled among us ...

1. I've never said Obama was born somewhere else.

2. I said this "release" will make the situation worse for the reasons stated above.

Since basic deductive skills elude you, I pointed out what issues will be focused on to "prove" the release is a forgery.

Somehow, you guys take this to mean I think it's a forgery, instead of actually reading what I've posted.

Oh, well, Welcome to the Glade, I suppose ...

I need to get past my endless optimism that some of you will learn to read sooner or later.
